I can't come up with a better word for them than "Alternative." What else? There are people out there who try to classify them as "Punk," but I disagree..

I have Sink or Swim as Punk Rock, because, well, yeah.

Mainly because I'm weird and want things organized in certain manners and fashions. I get that it makes no difference to a lot of people but I like to keep bands labeled under the correct genres. It bothers the heck out of me that iTunes labels half of the bands I rip as "Alternative." That's not even a real genre. Alternative to what?

Aha of course. American Slang and Handwritten are definitely "Rock" albums though. Been debating if I want to go as far as call it "heartland rock" though.

I agree for the most part. But it's also people's ignorance that make genres stupid. The definition of "rock" loses its meaning when it incorporate everyone from Led Zeppelin to Jimmy Eat World to Creed.

Because I'm obsessed with music and like having conversations about how it's evolving and changing? Yeah, honestly, there's no serious impact from informing people more about genres. Just something I find interesting.
