Left Spine Down - Fighting For Voltage
Record Label: Bit Riot Records
Release Date: October 7, 2008
Vancouver’s Left Spine Down have managed to cram a somewhat excessive 16 tracks on to this needlessly long album. Given the lack of depth and development, they could have easily afforded to cut a few songs from the record.
The vocals on the album are pretty plain and certainly nothing more than the standard fare for the industrial punk genre, and they don’t significantly add to the music. With lyrics as dull and unimaginative as these, in fact, the vocals, were they to be removed, would probably not be missed by many. Musically speaking, some songs are more engaging than others, but, rather than standing out, the better songs on the album merely rise above mediocrity.
The album’s production is perhaps its saving grace, bestowing upon the album a decent sound. Unfortunately, it doesn't change the fact that the release is a somewhat mundane and run-of-the-mill affair that probably won’t last anyone more than a couple of spins.
