Cartel did an interview with Buzzfeed.
However, the actual release is different than the way we initially intended. “Matter of Time” was supposed to be number eight, I believe?]Oh, yeah, so the label was like, “‘Matter of Time’ is the hit, man, we’ve got to move it up.” So it turned out to be fourth and it ruined our tuning order.

Happy birthday to Will from Cartel.

Last week I got the chance to see Cartel perform Chroma in its entirety (plus some surprise favorites). Hit The Lights, Team, and Driver Friendly were all out to support. Take a trip back to 2005 and check out our photos and show review in the replies!
After "If I Fail," Will said, "I'm pretty sure the St. Patty's day show was completely blown out just now. This is probably the most fun I've had in ten years; I'm not kidding."

Cartel's upcoming UK shows probably their last.
We wanted to mention that while planning this year of Chroma shows, we decided that there is likely not much international touring in the cards left for the band, and these will be the band’s last UK shows. Though we would love to keep traveling the world and playing shows, it’s a wildly expensive endeavor to cart ourselves and our gear around the world, and we aren’t really banging out new tunes left and right which would necessitate us promoting it worldwide. While all this may be a bummer, that’s not to say the band is over by any means, we will still play shows in the US. We’re very grateful and excited that we get another shot at...

Cartel stated at the Chicago date of the Chroma tour that "Honestly" had just gone gold and that they will be selling a gold 7" in August with the song and an acoustic version. Congratulations to the band!

Due to industry wide vinyl delays, Cartel's Chroma will be delayed.
While we were hoping that this would be only a minor setback and that we would still have the records in time for the beginning of the Chroma tour, due to Record Store Day forcing record plants around the US (and the world) into operating beyond maximum capacity, we are now being told that our records won’t be getting sent out to us until mid-May at this point. We asked if there is ANY way for us to get the records before then, even if that meant paying extra out of our pockets, but we’ve been told there is no way to speed this up. We are extremely disappointed, but since it is something that is out of our control, we...

Update: Huge thank you to the band and everyone for hanging out. The chat has now ended.

We'd like to welcome our longtime friends Cartel to the website today to chat. The band recently released a bunch of acoustic versions from Chroma and will be heading out on tour very soon. Hit the replies to chat with the guys about their upcoming tour, plans for the future, and things like that. They'll have blue names and sassy personalities.

Today is the day we wrap up our exclusive video series with Cartel performing acoustic tracks from Chroma. If you hit the replies you can find the band performing "Honestly," and if you missed any of the other videos I highly recommend checking them out. The band also recorded some songs from their other albums during these sessions and I've heard those will be released, along with this series, in some fashion for purchase in the near future. Don't forget that the band are heading out on a tour to support the 10 year anniversary of this album and you should probably make sure you grab it on vinyl as well.

I mean, I know it's not Brand New finally putting Deja back on vinyl ... but I think that Cartel's acoustic session videos have been making Monday tolerable for the past few weeks. Today we've got a special performance of "Runaway" that the band knocks out of the park. You can find that in the replies. I think it's a testament to just how great these songs are that they translate this well once stripped down. Don't forget that the band are heading out on a tour to support the 10 year anniversary of this album and you should probably make sure you grab it on vinyl as well.

I've long had an obsession with "track ones" on an album. There's just something about setting the stage for an entire experience that has always captivated me. If you blow track one, it's sometimes impossible to recover. I've always felt like Cartel nailed it with "Say Anything (Else)" on Chroma, and today we're continuing our series of acoustic sessions with a performance of that very song. Don't forget that the band are heading out on a tour to support the 10 year anniversary of this album and you should probably make sure you grab it on vinyl as well. The video of this pretty damn awesome performance, and the band's upcoming tour dates, can be found in the replies.

Ohhh, Valentine's Day ... you're the pop-punk of holidays; either sappy or forlorn, either loved or despised, either celebrated or ignored. There's not much in between. On this Valentine's Day we are continuing our release of a special group of Cartel acoustic sessions to celebrate the band's 10 year anniversary of Chroma. As you know, the band is heading out to play this album live across the country (dates in the replies), and they've got a great vinyl pressing of the album up for sale. This week we are excited to bring you a rendition of one of my favorite tracks from Chroma, "The Minstrel's Prayer." This is one of those songs that I feel helped push the genre forward into something...

We recently talked about Cartel's upcoming Chroma 10 year tour and vinyl release on our podcast and how influential that album was in shaping tastes and the whole "pop-punk sound" for a few years. Ten years ago we were the website that first streamed the album for everyone to hear -- so it's with a lot of pride (and an impending sense of my own age) that we present a special acoustic version of "If I Fail" with you today. The band recorded these sessions with Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount (the team behind Chroma), and we have a whole bunch of these to release over the next few weeks. Hit the replies for the song all the information about the band's upcoming tour.

I've been speaking with Will from Cartel a little bit about the Chroma pressing announced earlier today, and he wanted to make sure to pass on the following message.
Enjoy The Ride Records is well within their rights to release this product. Our intentions on Twitter were to let our fans know that this isn't our release that we have talked about for the last few years and that we did not coordinate any aspect of this particular release. That is NOT to say that ETR put out a bad product. From everything we can ascertain, it appears to be of very high quality and would make a great addition to the Cartel vinyl collection.

ETR did contact us regarding their intentions to put this out...
Jason Tate on 05/13/14 - 10:48 PM
Update #2: Enjoy the Ride says the band was aware of the release in advance.

Update
: Looks like the band didn't approve this release, they knew nothing about it, and they'll be releasing this album on their own as well apparently.

In addition to Reel Big Fish's Turn the Radio Off, Enjoy the Ride Records has released Cartel's Chroma on vinyl for the first time ever. The label's exclusive variant is limited to 500 copies, with another variant coming soon from Hot Topic.

Do you remember Cartel's stint as the "Band in the Bubble" for Dr. Pepper? Producer Kenneth Mount has been reminiscing on Twitter about the experience and soem of the behind the scenes shenanigans. Epic Records does not come off well.
MTV told us to set the drum set up inside the control room where the console and speakers were. #2 learned from MTV experience. The Vice President of epic records at the time didn't know what mastering was and asked me to explain that.

A variety of musicians and bands have begun speaking out on Twitter about the Kelly Thomas verdict. Will Pugh, of Cartel, stated, "If you care at all about civil liberties, you should be paying attention to the Fullerton PD's actions," and Man Overboard tweeted, "No justice for #KellyThomas means no justice for all American citizens. A sad day in our history. Embarrassing and heartbreaking to witness."

Thief Club (Nick from Hit The Lights) released the track "My Heavy" and it can be streamed on Soundcloud. It features Will Pugh from Cartel.
Christian Wagner on 10/24/13 - 07:45 AM
I was chatting with Nick of Hit The Lights about his new project Thief Club. He will be releasing a full length called My Heavy later this year. It was produced by Rob Freeman and features appearances from Will Pugh (Cartel), Shane Henderson (Valencia), and Colin Ross (original singer of Hit The Lights). Freeman produced Skip School, Start Fights, and from what I've heard so far, it seems like it will carry that vibe for this release.

You can read Under The Gun Review's recent interview with Will Pugh (Cartel) here.
Oh, absolutely. We’ve been talking around that idea for probably the last year or so. Like, “Are we going to do a Chroma tour now or are we going to wait until 10 years?” You know, this is the tenth year of Cartel. In October it will be ten years since we recorded The Ransom EP. So we thought “Well could we get away with just a ten year anniversary? We’d just play Chroma and a collection of other stuff. What are we going to do?” So we said, “screw it, we’ll just wait.” We’re close enough. It’ll definitely happen.
Drew Beringer on 06/06/13 - 01:26 PM
