The AV Club has posted an extensive article titled "A Beginner's Guide to the Bouncy Buzz of Pop Punk," which can be read here. "Essential Listening" includes Green Day's Kerplunk, The Ergs' DorkRockCorkRod and, of course, Descendents' Milo Goes To College. What are some of your essentials, though?
We sought out a small, local coffee roaster in Fort Collins, sampled coffees from around the world, then roasted, cupped, and re-roasted until we felt it epitomized what we have been singing about for all of these years. Two years ago, Devo had to cancel their headlining performance at Fun Fun Fun Fest due to injury and only weeks before the festival. It was announced that Descendents would be reuniting for the first time in about a decade to fill the spot, and as someone who was there, it was a blast. Our friends at Light and Noise TV were there to capture the whole thing, including the encore where Rise Against's Tim Mcllrath joined the band for "Bikeage." In case you haven't been able to see one of the one-offs, head to the replies to watch the full set. The seventh annual Fun Fun Fun Fest happens next weekend, and tickets are still available here.
Either/Or Records has released a compilation tribute to the Descendents featuring We Are the Union, Crucial Dudes, Nightmares for a Week, The Tired and True and more. Stream and download Either/Or Sucks: A Tribute To Descendents for free here.
This might not normally be categorized as news, but I couldn't legitimize not posting something this awesome. If you head here you can buy a full-on Christmas sweatshirt from the Descendents, featuring Milo and coffee mugs and all.
Paper + Plastick has launched a new comic series called "Perfect Teeth." It follows the career of a vampire band and how the music industry tries to keep pace by signing other monster bands. Members of Less Than Jake and the Descendents teamed up to record a song as the vampire band, which goes by the name Perfect Teeth, and the song will be released later this month. You can download the introductory Perfect Teeth #0 for free here or buy a limited, physical edition for $3 here.
MxPx have posted their cover of the Descendents’ “Suburban Home” from their new record, On The Cover II, on myspace. As a compliment we've posted two more exclusive promo photos of the band impersonating the Descendents (here) and The Go-Gos (here). Check back next Monday - as MxPx posts a new cover song, we'll post new impersonation pictures.
