Steve Albini has slammed Amanda Palmer for saying she couldn't afford to pay back-up musicians (after raising 1.2 million on Kickstarter). Someone may need to get Amanda some aloe for that burn ...
From the BlogI have no fundamental problem with either asking your fans to pay you to make your record or go on tour or play for free in your band or gather at a mud pit downstate and sell meth and blowjobs to each other. I wouldn't stoop to doing any of them myself, but horses for courses. The reason I don't appeal to other people in this manner is that all those things can easily pay for themselves, and I value self-sufficiency and independence, even (or especially) from an audience.

Amanda Palmer (of the Dresden Dolls / Evelyn Evelyn fame) is funding her new record via Kickstarter and set out for a $100,000 goal. The Kickstarter currently stands at over $618,000 with over 11,000 backers and still has three weeks to go in its lifetime. What are your thoughts on Kickstarter campaigns that blow up like this? Discuss in the replies.

Amanda Palmer of The Dresden Dolls is the crazy person in a city that you try to avoid eye contact with at all costs but still manages to harass you. Check out why in her home video of Tegan and Sara's "Hell" here.
