You smell that? That's the promise of autumn - brisk wind, leaves falling, and hot cider. It's my favorite time of year so I'm especially ecstatic that 2013 saved some of the very best releases for the coming Fall months. A handful of staff members put their brains together to put out a small list of the albums we can't wait to hear. Check it out in the replies and let us know what we got right, wrong, and what your personal list would look like.

We're introducing yet another new editorial feature on the site today and it's one we're all really excited about. Presenting the AP.net Roundtable - an article revolving around a much-anticipated album and the discussion it inspires amongst a handful of staff members. The first roundtable article features Ryan Dennehy, Jake Jenkins, Jason Tate, Craig Manning, Kelly Doherty, Kyle Huntington, and myself discussing The National's latest release, Trouble Will Find Me. Throughout the discussion we touched on favorite songs, themes, and lyrics while also trying to predict what the future holds for the band. It's a very interesting read and something we're going to try to do one or two...

Haulix continues its blogger highlight series with a pretty in-depth interview with our CEO and founder Jason Tate. They discuss the features of the upcoming new AP.net site, AbsoluteVoices, and more. You can check it out here. An interview with yours truly will be posted in the coming weeks, so you can look forward to that as well.

It seems like the mid-year articles and lists arrive faster and faster each year. The first six months of 2013 brought listeners enough great albums to fill up an end of the year list, so it's somewhat overwhelming yet incredibly exciting that we have six more months of fantastic releases to look forward to. As for now, we'll put a bow on the first 181 days of the year by releasing our ten favorites thus far as well as individual lists from our staff. And to go along with this, we've released episode five of the AbsolutePunk Podcast. Jason and I talk about our favorite albums so far and look forward to what the rest of the year has in store. You can check out the podcast here and...

This upcoming weekend will kick off the 19th year of the Vans Warped Tour and we know you're just as excited to be attending the punk rock summer camp as we are. Of course, one of the many dilemmas of the festival is trying to figure out which bands to see once you arrive to the festival. Fear not, AP.net reader. We've been compiling our "Warped 30" list for a while now so that you can use it as a cheat sheet on which artists you absolutely must see. So check out our picks in the replies and fret no more about the 2013 Vans Warped Tour.

Just in case you missed it last week, we premiered the first episode of the AbsolutePunk.net Podcast. Our first guest is Max Bemis of Say Anything and we discussed the My Friends Are Enemies rarities release. Episode 2 with Max premieres this Friday (June 14th) and it's a really good one, as he shares some stories with the world for the first time. Don't miss it.

I've wanted an official AbsolutePunk.net podcast for a while. I love listening to podcasts, I love doing them (you may remember user anamericangod and I had a brief podcast run), but we just never had the time or resources to really commit to doing one on the site. That all changes today. I am extremely proud to introduce the first episode of the AbsolutePunk.net Podcast. We were fortunate enough to have Max Bemis of Say Anything to be our first guest and we recorded so much great stuff that we divided it up into three separate episodes, with the first one premiering today and the other two being released over the course of the next two weeks every Friday. We talked to Max about the...

Well, it's the start of the new week and if you're visiting this website on a mobile device right now ... you've probably noticed that we've got a brand new mobile site. This is the culmination of countless hours of work and testing and dedication from all the AP.net staff and quite a few active beta testers -- we're pretty proud of how it came out. To celebrate, we're throwing a contest ... and all of those details can be found below. But first, I want to highlight a few things about the new mobile site and also open this thread (as well as this one in the general forum) to any questions or comments you may have. Our website is ever evolving, and it's from feedback from you, the user,...

Please welcome Cody Nelson, whom is our newest addition to the AbsolutePunk.net staff. He'll be focusing on bringing comedy content to the site, such as reviews, interviews, and weekly round-up. It's an area I've wanted to cover on the site for a while, especially with all the interest in stand-up and the like in our Entertainment forum.
Drew Beringer on 03/20/13 - 01:20 PM
It's the most wonderful time of the year: March Madness! We've got our official bracket challenge group up (winners get prizes, of course), and the discussion thread in the sports forum is made. Go Badgers!

For today's "countdown" feature, I thought that we could maybe get a good discussion going about our favorite hidden gems in music. I posted a list of some of my favorites a while back in my blog, but I never shared them here. Here are 5 things I find cool about music. What are some of yours?
The Countdown1) The last line from The Format's Interventions & Lullabies is "we all fall down" and the first line to Dog Problems is "ashes to ashes."

2) Brand New’s "Limousine" is about … this. I doubt it’s possible to watch that video and not cry. Also, that there’s a Track 0 on TDAGARIM.

3) In The Gaslight Anthem's "Meet Me By The River’s Edge" the lyric, "No surrender, my Bobby Jean" are...

A few weeks ago the AP.net staff posted our "most anticipated of 2013" list. Then we asked you, the reader, to vote for your most anticipated of 2013 albums. We've finally tallied up all of the votes: and the results are in. The number one band may surprise you, as The Color Morale ended up snagging the top spot. The band's upcoming album, Know Hope, hits stores on March 26th. To find out the other 59 albums you're anticipating, check the replies.

Congratulations to both of them and be on the lookout for their first reviews this week.

Tonight at 8 PM EST is the 55th annual Grammy Awards and this is the thread to post in with any and all of your opinions about this year's winners, losers, and performers. Unfortunately for me, this isn't being broadcast live in Los Angeles (because that makes sense), so I'll be following along in here and on twitter before the tape-delayed broadcast airs here, so don't let me down! You can check out the full list of nominees here.
Drew Beringer on 02/10/13 - 03:42 PM
Feels like I've been down this road before, but I am looking for someone to volunteer their time to become the next hip-hop reviewer for AbsolutePunk.net. This is a position where you will be solely focusing on the genre - posting reviews and news pertaining to hip-hop. If you are interested, please send me a review of a hip-hop album of your choice here. Thank you and good luck!

Today's a good day to re-plug our "most anticipated of 2013" poll. I bet there's a bunch of people that want a re-do. Oops.

Silverstein has always been one of the more underrated "post-hardcore" bands in our scene. Despite moderate success over the years and some truly fantastic albums, the Ontario quintet has never seemed to garner as much respect or appreciation as their material deserves. With the band releasing its seventh studio album This Is How The Wind Shifts tomorrow (as well as chatting with us later tonight at 5 PM PST / 8 PM EST), I wanted to show some love to the band on this week's "Countdown." The band has evolved and refined its post-hardcore sound over the course of its 13 year career - the band sounds unrecognizable on its debut When Broken Is Easily Fixed. The growth and progress in

Today we are introducing a recurring new feature on the site titled "The Countdown" in which a staff member dishes out a list about anything music-related. I know that sounds kind of vague, but just stay with me. In recognition of Tegan and Sara's new album Heartthrob hitting stores tomorrow, I'm listing my 5 favorite videos from the duo. Over the last decade-plus, the Quin sisters' videos have emphasized rich color palettes and unique styles. The visual compliment is an essential ingredient to Tegan and Sara's music, often taking it to another level (also check out the evolution of their hair styles!). So, please enjoy my five favorite videos from the band. And feel free to...

What are you anticipating this year? Just another reminder for you to take this quick poll and let us know. We'll be putting together the final tallies next week to get a snapshot of what the AP.net users are most looking forward to in 2013.

AbsolutePunk.net has a current opening for an intern during the Spring 2013 semester. Located in Los Angeles, I'm looking for someone who can commit 2-3 times a week (20+ hours), do some behind the scenes stuff on the site (with some editorial), and can bring me some iced tea lemonade from The Coffee Bean. You can find all the requirements and details, as well as apply for the position, here (it's right under the "editorial" section).

You smell that? That's the scent of hope, potential, and excitement. The aura of anticipation. After furiously putting a capper on the year that was music in 2012, we're already furiously putting together lists of the albums we hope end up on our best of lists. Today, the AbsolutePunk.net staff is pleased to present our most anticipated albums of 2013. These are the albums we're hoping shows up early every time we check our inboxes. These are the albums we can't wait to discuss and dissect with our wonderful users. These are the albums that have us excited for that specific Tuesday to hurry up so we can go to our local record stores and pick it up. The staff once again showed off...

What are you anticipating this year? Take this quick poll and let us know. We'll be putting together the final tallies in January to get a snapshot of what the AP.net users are most looking forward to in 2013. Tomorrow we'll be revealing the staff's most anticipated albums, so stay tuned for that.

With the announcement of Justin Timberlake's new album on Monday, his first album in six years, the topic of releasing quality over quantity was the first topic that seemed to arise (or at least for me). While debating and arguing music is all semantics, there is still something to be said for an artist that can return from their musical hiatus and release high quality material that lives up to their fans expectations, even after so many years. In general, most artists release a new album every two to three years at most, which has worked in the frameworks of the music industry of the past. Build hype, release album, tour said album and then eventually start writing and head back into...

We've got a great staff here at AP.net and today I wanted to take a moment to first thank them for being amazing, and second compile a list of all the different ways you can follow your favorite staff members around the interwebs. So, if you check the replies you'll be able to stalk ... er ... follow the staff!
Jason Tate on 01/10/13 - 01:09 PM
