Buzzmedia is looking for volunteers for this year's SXSW. If you are over 21 and live in Austin and want to volunteer your time, then check out the details in the replies.

I am pleased to announce Chris Collum and Jake Jenkins as our latest additions to the AbsolutePunk.net staff. Chris will be focusing on covering the ever expanding world of indie music while Jake is the first of two reviewers to be covering hip-hop. Congratulations to both of them and be on the lookout for their first reviews this week.

Tonight at 8 PM EST is the 55th annual Grammy Awards and this is the thread to post in with any and all of your opinions about this year's winners, losers, and performers. Unfortunately for me, this isn't being broadcast live in Los Angeles (because that makes sense), so I'll be following along in here and on twitter before the tape-delayed broadcast airs here, so don't let me down! You can check out the full list of nominees here.
Drew Beringer on 02/10/13 - 04:42 PM
Feels like I've been down this road before, but I am looking for someone to volunteer their time to become the next hip-hop reviewer for AbsolutePunk.net. This is a position where you will be solely focusing on the genre - posting reviews and news pertaining to hip-hop. If you are interested, please send me a review of a hip-hop album of your choice here. Thank you and good luck!

Today's a good day to re-plug our "most anticipated of 2013" poll. I bet there's a bunch of people that want a re-do. Oops.

Silverstein has always been one of the more underrated "post-hardcore" bands in our scene. Despite moderate success over the years and some truly fantastic albums, the Ontario quintet has never seemed to garner as much respect or appreciation as their material deserves. With the band releasing its seventh studio album This Is How The Wind Shifts tomorrow (as well as chatting with us later tonight at 5 PM PST / 8 PM EST), I wanted to show some love to the band on this week's "Countdown." The band has evolved and refined its post-hardcore sound over the course of its 13 year career - the band sounds unrecognizable on its debut When Broken Is Easily Fixed. The growth and progress in

Today we are introducing a recurring new feature on the site titled "The Countdown" in which a staff member dishes out a list about anything music-related. I know that sounds kind of vague, but just stay with me. In recognition of Tegan and Sara's new album Heartthrob hitting stores tomorrow, I'm listing my 5 favorite videos from the duo. Over the last decade-plus, the Quin sisters' videos have emphasized rich color palettes and unique styles. The visual compliment is an essential ingredient to Tegan and Sara's music, often taking it to another level (also check out the evolution of their hair styles!). So, please enjoy my five favorite videos from the band. And feel free to...

AbsolutePunk.net has a current opening for an intern during the Spring 2013 semester. Located in Los Angeles, I'm looking for someone who can commit 2-3 times a week (20+ hours), do some behind the scenes stuff on the site (with some editorial), and can bring me some iced tea lemonade from The Coffee Bean. You can find all the requirements and details, as well as apply for the position, here (it's right under the "editorial" section).

You smell that? That's the scent of hope, potential, and excitement. The aura of anticipation. After furiously putting a capper on the year that was music in 2012, we're already furiously putting together lists of the albums we hope end up on our best of lists. Today, the AbsolutePunk.net staff is pleased to present our most anticipated albums of 2013. These are the albums we're hoping shows up early every time we check our inboxes. These are the albums we can't wait to discuss and dissect with our wonderful users. These are the albums that have us excited for that specific Tuesday to hurry up so we can go to our local record stores and pick it up. The staff once again showed off...

With the announcement of Justin Timberlake's new album on Monday, his first album in six years, the topic of releasing quality over quantity was the first topic that seemed to arise (or at least for me). While debating and arguing music is all semantics, there is still something to be said for an artist that can return from their musical hiatus and release high quality material that lives up to their fans expectations, even after so many years. In general, most artists release a new album every two to three years at most, which has worked in the frameworks of the music industry of the past. Build hype, release album, tour said album and then eventually start writing and head back into...

We've got a great staff here at AP.net and today I wanted to take a moment to first thank them for being amazing, and second compile a list of all the different ways you can follow your favorite staff members around the interwebs. Be it their personal blogs, twitter, facebook, or a variety of other social mediums - it's a great way to stay up to date on their latest postings here, and their musings on a variety of other topics. So, if you check the replies you'll be able to stalk ... er ... follow the staff!

I've posted up our interview with Chris Holmes, the engineer behind the new Blink-182 EP.
From The InterviewI'll echo what I've said before and say that if you're hearing similarities that's natural. The members are the same. I'd say if you listen through the blink catalog you can hear +44 and AVA before +44 and AVA existed.

It's what you've all been waiting for. After weeks of preparation, it is now time for us to reveal our "Best of 2012" feature. This year's feature contains over 200 lists from staff, bands, and industry folk (including the staff compiled list of our 30 favorite records here) for you to browse through. This is always an exciting feature; there's a ton of new music to discover and discuss. Check it out, leave some comments, and don't forget you can leave your own lists in this thread.

This is the final reminder to all bands and industry folk - we'll be launching our EOTY feature very soon and we're still continuing to build up our "end of the year" database, as we've done each year, and we want your lists! If you're in a band, work for a label, or are involved in the industry - we want to feature your favorite albums of the year in our end of the year brouhaha. We've made it super simple again this year: just email us your lists here and make sure you make it clear who the list is for (ie: if you're in a band - is it a band list, or is it an individual band member list?). We'll compile everything together, and post it all around the new year.

As the new year approaches, it seems like a good time to reach out and see what you want to see more of in 2013 on AbsolutePunk. So let us know what music you want more of, what bands you would like to talk to, what interviews you'd like to read and everything in between. Head to the replies to let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate. Without you, the site is nothing so we want to thank you all for continually staying loyal and being the best group of music fans on the internet.

Given yesterday's shocking news, it seems like a good time to talk about where the line is drawn between art and morals. This all spawned from a tweet Jason posted yesterday morning. Do you separate a musician's personal life from their craft? If you don't, where do you draw line where it impacts the art or music they have created? This topic has been brought up on many occasions, whether it be Jonny Craig, Ronnie Radke or even The Dangerous Summer. What's more important to you? The music that has the impact to change lives for the better? Or being able to know that you support good people at the end of the day? Head to the replies to talk it out.

Earlier this week, Jason, Thomas, and I (along with various other people) were tweeting back and forth about the potential of a vinyl repress for Brand New's Deja Entendu. The conversation eventually evolved into a discussion of what vinyl records we covet and spawned the idea of this week's discussion thread. So vinyl lovers, what is your holy grail? What's a repressing you'd kill for or how much would you pay for an original pressing? What albums do you wish were actually pressed on vinyl (Cartel's Chroma was a popular answer on Twitter)? Let's get weird.

Whoa, why is Drew Beringer posting this week's "Consequential Apathy" column? Where's Adam? Well, as of today, Adam Pfleider has decided to take a break from AbsolutePunk.net and writing in general and I wanted this space so I could wish him well. Adam is one of the most passionate, genuine, and hard-working music fans I've ever encountered during my time at AbsolutePunk.net. Whether you agreed with him or not, he definitely believed in good music prevailing and engage all of us in fantastic debates. I'm very sad to see Adam go and I'll miss these weekly columns,...

I'm really excited to announce that my good friend Scott Weber is coming back to AbsolutePunk.net to revive his role as an album reviewer. Scott was a prominent reviewer for the site in the mid-00s, with his last review dating back to fall 2006. Since then he's been the sports forum moderator, but recently got the itch to review once again. He'll be covering more of the punk rock genre on the site, so be on the lookout for that. In the meantime, welcome Scott back to the site and check the replies for more fun facts about him!

Today is one of those special days where I get to say a new part of the dream I've had for the past 12 or so years is coming true. It comes with great pride that we can announce something that I've been working on behind the scenes for over a year: the formation of a new publishing group that we're dubbing "AbsoluteVoices" (yeah, I'm not all that creative with names). You can check out the full press release below, but first I'd like to officially welcome and thank PunkNews.org, PropertyOfZack.com, UnderTheGunReview.net, and AlterThePress.com for agreeing to be part of a vision for what the future of music blogging and the publishing world can look like online. When I first started this website it was with the dream that one day I'd be able to do it for a living. That I wouldn't ever have to get a "real" job. I've been insanely blessed to have seen this portion of my dream come true. Now, along with that I also had a vision for quite a few other things ... not all of them have come true, yet ... but part of it was that I wanted to be able to put together a team of AP.net staff that could work out of an office and also make a living doing what they love. I am able to say today that we've taken the first step toward actualizing that goal. In what I hope to be the first of many such announcements, I'd like to officially announce that...

Too often, we hear about a new tour, get excited for it...then forget about it. Before we know it, the tour has moved past our city and we're stuck waiting months to see our favorite bands. Use our weekly tour roundup to never miss another show in your city. In the replies, you'll find a layout of current and future tours in North America, the UK/Europe, Australia and South America, with links to information about the dates. We try to remember every tour, but if you have one to add that we missed, just format it like we do and leave it for us to add. Head to the replies to talk about which tours you're most excited for.

Whew, time flies when you're listening to great music. At least it does for us, as the staff at AbsolutePunk can barely believe we're already in July. And just like last year, we have had a ton of great music released to us during the first six months of 2012. So naturally we shifted through our lists to individually select our top 10 records midway through 2012. You can check out all the lists here and make sure you leave a comment (or ten).
