Hey Sunday fans; it's time for the weekly recommendations. This week we had Steve from New Found Glory join us with his picks as well. So check all of those out below, and then leave what you've been enjoying in the replies. Hope everyone's had a great weekend. Don't forget that on Valentines Day we'll be having out annual chat with TWLOHA. It's always one of the best chats we do each year.

Steve Klein from New Found GloryHey Guys and Gals! Here are some amazing bands that I think everyone should check out: Team Me's record "To The Treetops" has been a record that I can't stop listening to since I first heard it. At times it reminds me of a more poppy Mew, but they definitely...

Just a tad bit of a cluster fuck on the website this week, so this is going to be fun. It's time for this week's "power rankings." I was putting it off for a few hours because I knew what I had to put at the top, but I just can't put it off any longer. So, here we go. You ready? Yeah. Here's what was popular on the website last week - and my always fun commentary.

1) Jonny Craig / Dance Gavin Dance
NoteIf you think that the original thread was insane, you don't even want to see the staff email chain. Look, I hope the guy finally realizes he needs help, because it's so clear that other people trying to help him isn't going to work. There's a level of personal responsibility...

Figure I can put together an entire posts of the week feature before lunch. I mean, at the moment I'm just posting stupid shit on tumblr, and re-capping all of the funny, weird, and odd around the website from the last week seems like a much better use of my time. Let's see what we've got this week ... had to get some help from all of the staff this week. And if I could nominate Drew's quote on Twitter, I think that deserves some love as well. If you click on the little arrow thingy next to the username, you'll be able to go see the post in the thread it originated in ... context, sometimes, helps.

Sarcasm thick: I wonder what thread is going to have the most posts of the...

If the AP.net office was anything besides me at a desk, staring at three computer screens at once -- I'm pretty certain we would all be having a beer on this Friday afternoon. I'm positive we'd be having the kind of debates we have weekly over email. I'd pull rank and decide that everyone must listen/dance to Penguin Prison ... and we'd all vote on what makes this week's "posts of the week" list. However, at the moment it's just me and the emails back and forth with the rest of the country. Not as fun ... but I can still put together a posts of the week feature and all that. If you click on the little arrow thingy next to the username, you'll be able to go see the post in the...

Lots of reports that this "Woman in Black" ad is crashing the site/taking over/making all the links un-clickable for a lot of people. Gimme a second, I'm personally working on trying to get it fixed. Really, really sorry about this.

Update: Killing the ads for a moment to get this sorted out.

It's Friday - and that means it's time to get down. It also means it's time for me to write up this week's power rankings and let my sarcastic side out to play. So, after pouring over the numbers, interjecting a bit of my personal bias, let's see what we've got this week ...

1) All Time Low
NoteHow did these guys sneak in at number one? Well, it turns out that me being kind of an ass, and posting this video, led to an extremely active thread full of views and replies. Interesting. I am taking this under advisement.

2) Hit the Lights
NoteNote to bands: doing a chat with us = lots of interaction. Lots of interactions = up the power ranking charts. The band released their new album,...

A few weeks ago the AP.net staff posted our "most anticipated of 2012" list. Then we asked you, the reader, to vote for your most anticipated of 2012 albums ... we tallied up all of the votes: and the results are in. After a lot of back and forth, Paramore ended up snagging the top spot - and we have 59 of your top picks following them! Check them all out here.

With so much going on around the website today, it took me until 4pm to finally be able to sit down and write this thing. Damn, I'm like an hour away from being able to write this thing with a beer and really see some sparks fly. Lost opportunity. Okay, let's work on this week's "power rankings" and take a look at what bands and topics dominated the website last week.

1) Drive-Thru Records
NoteThe label was #6 on last week's charts; however, with arguably one of the better news threads we've had in forever - the label is up at #1 this week. I saw this thread everywhere. So many responses, so many views, so many fantastic stories. It made the week for me, and hopefully for many...

TGIF. Thankfully it's Friday, and that means it's time to look at the nominees for best posts of the week. I saw last week someone mention the idea about a full on awards show where the posters on these lists the most, at the end of the year, getting some kind of trophy/prize. I'm all about that come next December. This week had a lot of nominations, quite a few funny moments (that definitely play better in context with the thread) - and this was, for me at least, an extremely fun week on the website. Just like last week - I had staff help me compile the posts we found to be worthy of inclusion. Unfortunately, I didn't see anything worthy of worst post of the week. Well, there...

Gotta say, yesterday's discussion about the Drive-Thru Records' generation was one of the best moments I've had on the website in a long time. Talking with so many people that experienced similar things, hearing the stories, listening to the music again at the exact same moment I knew others were ... it was one of those days that really solidifies why I run a music website. Hearing from all the bands and people involved in the label, via twitter, email, facebook, and in the thread -- it was a special day. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone that participated in it. Lots of stuff coming up today, so I've unstickied it - but the conversation is still going on.

So you know our buddy Zack, from PropertyofZack, right? He's the one that named his website after himself, kinda like when you put your name on your favorite toy. It's so cute. He's also cranking out killer content, videos, playlists, and interviews. We like Zack. So, I was brainstorming with him the other day - and we came up with what we think could be a cool idea. What we want to do is an interview where the users of both websites ask us questions. The idea is this: we both are making posts (you're reading it) asking for questions from you, the reader, that you'd like answered by Zack and I. Then we'll compile all of the best questions together and we'll both answer them. ...

It looks like The Word Alive did some promotion over the weekend, because as of right now they're leading the "most anticipated album of 2012" reader poll. If you haven't gotten your votes in yet - please do! We'll be posting the full list of results next Monday. Also, if you missed the staff list of our most anticipated of 2012, check that out too.

Made a few minor changes to the homepage over the weekend. That content module was getting zero love, and it made more sense to combine it with our "what's popular" module to display what's actually popular around the website. So, instead of having just a floating "exclusive's module" on the left side, I got rid of that column to give us more room in the news section. The upcoming APv3 re-design uses a similar 2 column system, so it just makes sense to start getting used to it now.

Last week we tried out a new Friday featurette called "posts of the week" (for those that missed it - it's exactly what it sounds like) - and everyone seemed to really like it. So, this week we are bringing it back. This week was full of funny posts, down right insane posts, and some shit I couldn't even follow. Just like last week - I had staff help me compile the posts we found to be worthy of inclusion. We also had a post that got nominated for "worst post of the week" - and we included that in here as well. Next week we'll do our best to keep track of those too. Oh, and hopefully make better note of all the brilliant comments made in the forums as well (not sure if I can...

Another week down the drain. Is it just me or do the days seem to be flying by lately? It was a good week around the website though, lots of good stories - lots of memorable moments. Quite a few "what the..." moments as well. We'll get to those in a minute, for now - here's this week's power ranking list. Sorry it's a little late ... been busy picking my jaw off the floor from "that thread that shall not be named."

1) The Dangerous Summer
NoteCongrats boys, I think this is what you were going for. You're number one. The band's "issue statement" thread was ginormous. It started calmly - and like most internet threads - is basically a mess by the end of it. There's a tad bit of...

I've never really wrapped my head around the idea that "EP" stands for extended play, and yet its the shorter version of an album. Extended seems, to me, to mean even longer than long play. Either way, you know the terminology, and I'm going to stop before I open myself up to too many jokes. The topic of today's "Thursday Discussion" post is: my favorite EPs. I feel like standing up for the little guy. The under-appreciated art of brevity. The brave souls that didn't stuff their albums with filler - and gave us EPs that left us wanting more. Those short little releases that introduced us to a band or a sound, and in some cases get more spins from me than the same band's...

Yellowcard is currently back on top of this year's "most anticipated of 2012" reader poll. Have you voted yet? Brand New is No. 2. Still can't get any real news on their thoughts for this year ... but I've been told they're at least thinking of recording.
Jason Tate on 01/19/12 - 09:22 AM
Got a lot more news coming down the pipeline in a few minutes, so I am going to unsticky the Bamboozle thread. However, for people that missed it - check out the bands announced so far. Oh, and while I'm reminding you of things: make sure you vote in the AP.net reader poll for the albums you're most anticipating this year.
Jason Tate on 01/18/12 - 03:51 PM
I quickly put together an AP.net tumblr page, to post additional stuff, some of our top stories, and all that. If you feel like following, have at it. We're also on twitter and facebook. We're basically whores - so no kissing.

Yesterday we launched our "Most Anticipated of 2012" feature where we highlighted the albums that the AP.net staff are most looking forward to this year. Along with it we launched a new reader poll where we ask you - the reader - what albums you are anticipating for the year. Today I want to highlight this section and make sure everyone votes in the poll. The more of our readers that vote, the more accurate portrait we'll have. I checked the results a few minutes ago ... and at the moment the top five looks like this:

Early Returns: Most Anticipated Results
1) Paramore
2) Yellowcard
3) Fun.
4) Brand New
5) Motion City Soundtrack

With Yellowcard in second place, they have a legit...

The beginning of the year, much like the first day of school or a new job, reigns with the scent of anticipation. It's that moment where we haven't yet heard what the future holds and we're all thinking of what new albums could sound like. With these feelings tingling in our fingers, the AP.net staff have put compiled together our "Most Anticipated of 2012" feature. We've worked on putting together the albums that we are most excited about getting our grubby little hands on. After reading through what the staff are looking forward to playing, check out our reader poll - where we ask you to fill out what it is you're anticipating this year. We'll compile all of the answers, and run a...

As of right now there are over 17 million posts on this website. We're actually really close to 18 million now that I look at it. We like to talk, a lot. And while not all of them are gems ... there are some pretty hilarious and well said things on the website during the week. Today, I want to try out a new column where I highlight the "best posts of the week." There is absolutely no way I am going to be able to go through every single post on a weekly basis; however, with the help of staff - we've worked on compiling our favorites that we've seen. Now that the feature is in place, we'll hopefully do a better job making note of these when we see them throughout the week. And while...

Oh, shit! It's Friday the 13th. Freak the fuck out. It was another great week around the website. It started out insane, and thankfully it didn't really ever slow down. It's not like we were ever going to top Monday's awesomeness though. So, in following up last week's debut of the "artist power rankings" - here's this week's list after looking over all the stats. Basically the first day of the week kicked everyone out from last week. Poor Brand New. I wonder what Jesse Lacey thinks?

1) At the Drive-In
NoteThe thread about them reuniting was ridiculously awesome. All kinds of great posts. All kinds of nostalgic love. That was basically what kicked off Monday's insanity ......
Jason Tate on 01/12/12 - 11:11 PM
It's been a strange start to the new year. I spent some time looking over the metrics to see what was popular this last week or so, and it's kind of interesting to see what everyone was reading around the website. For a quick recap, I decided to put together the power rankings of the last week. Basically highlighting the bands that dominated our lives. We'll see how this goes, tongue firmly planted in cheek...

1) Brand New
NoteIf this band is talked about, at all, they blow up the news feed. Their NYE show was basically the catalyst for the insanity. And when the videos hit everyone went nuts. Combine that with the youtube channel news, a poll about if we'll see a new album next...

We're half-way into the first week of 2012, and we (the AP.net staff) wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for all their support last year. Especially all of the readers, band members, industry folk, and PR people that help give us the ability to do this every day. In the replies you'll find some homemade "thank you" videos from the staff. We hope you had as good of year as we did.
Jason Tate on 01/04/12 - 10:43 AM
Good morning, everyone! Today we are bringing two new staffers on board at AP.net. Everyone head to the replies and say hello to Jack Appleby (formerly JackMEB) and Jason Gardner (formerly apenguinmoshpit). Jack and Jason (really? both another Jason and another Gardner??) will be contributing reviews, interviews, news posting - a little bit of everything - and writing some more editorials and feature-length articles, of which we're hoping to bring more to AP.net in 2012. Welcome on board!

Well, the "holiday" season has come and went. It's now a new year - and it's time to say goodbye to our holiday theme. It sneaks out once a year, and almost as soon as it's here ... it's gone. Hopefully by the time it's time to roll out the holiday colors this year, we'll be doing so on the brand new website. That's my resolution. What's yours?
Jason Tate on 01/02/12 - 12:29 PM
Everyone welcome Jake to the AP.net staff. He was formerly user Boomhauer12, and is now staff member Jake Denning. He will be helping us improve our interview section in 2012. Boom(hauer).

Just saw a really interesting thread about "2011's biggest moments in music" - and thought I'd pass the link on to those in the news. For me, it has to be Blink's reunion. It just became such a massive thing around the website during the album release, single release, videos - and all that. Check out the thread, and make sure to leave your biggest moment in music.
Jason Tate on 12/29/11 - 11:21 AM
Now that our "Best of 2011" feature is up on the website, over the next week or so we will be highlighting some of the lists from our friends in bands, the industry, etc. Today, I want to take a moment to call attention to American Dream Records' list. You may know him as "anamericangod," one of the most prolific posters in AP.net history. His new label has been focusing on vinyl records, and their list is sure to be a Charlie Simpson hypefest. Check it out.

Also, I'd like to call special attention to the lists from Saves the Day, This is Hell, and O'Brother.
Jason Tate on 12/28/11 - 11:21 AM
Here we are at the end of 2011. And that means it's time to unveil our "best of 2011" feature. The feature contains a staff compiled list of our favorite records of 2011, as well as all of our individual lists. Then, we have a whole batch of lists from bands, industry folk, and friends of the website for you to browse through. This is one of my favorite times of the year: so much new music to learn about, all in one place. Check it out, leave some comments, and don't forget you can leave your own lists in this thread.
Jason Tate on 12/27/11 - 10:38 AM
We're in the middle of tallying up all of our End of the Year lists from staff and band/industry friends -- and we will be launching our feature tomorrow. Who do you think is ending up as our staff compiled number one? It was a bitter battle to the end.
Jason Tate on 12/26/11 - 01:44 PM
Why is this news!!? Why did you post that? Who is this band? Who cares. I've been running some variation of a "news posting" website for over 10 years now (side-bar: holy balls, I can't believe it's been that long). I've seen just about every incarnation of the above questions, statements, and borderline accusations. Most of the time I just roll my eyes at it. I've answered the question "why" so many times I just don't have the energy to copy and paste anymore. However, I think it's worth putting on the record a few statements about just how and why we post the news that we post. I'm not sure what our current FAQ reads about this question, or even if it addresses it -- it's quite...

The AP.net staff put together a playlist of some of our favorite songs of 2011 for rdio. Looking to discover some of the best stuff you may have missed this year? Check it out.

Just wanted to remind readers that they can submit news to us. See a hot tip that we haven't posted? Let us know. At a show and a band says something on stage? Use the mobile website to drop us a line (this will be much improved in APv3). If you're a long time reader and have thoughts on how this feature could be improved, or newbie with a good idea, hit up the replies with suggestions.

As we're preparing our end of the year lists (note: band and label peeps, check here), a user pointed out to me on twitter a list from NPR that showcases the 20 "unhappiest people you will find in the comment sections of end of the year lists." We've done this enough to know just how right on the money they are. So, check it out, don't be "that guy" - and we'll be launching our lists at the end of the year. Guess now I should go finish mine. What was the AOTY?
Jason Tate on 12/14/11 - 11:35 AM
For those that rarely venture past the news feed, I wanted to give a quick shout-out to the entertainment forum. If you're looking for a place to talk about new movies, TV shows, or video games -- this is the place to be. The best thread currently has got to be The Dark Knight Rises thread. The first 6 minutes of the movie were shown to fans the other night - and now it's just fanboydom all over the place. It rules.
Jason Tate on 12/14/11 - 10:23 AM
Calling all bands, record label peeps, and industry folk. We're building up our "end of the year" database, as we've done each year, and we want your lists! If you're in a band, work for a label, or are involved in the industry - we want to feature your favorite albums of the year in our end of the year extravaganza We've made it super easy this year: just fill out this form. Don't want to fill out a form? Fine. You can email us your lists here - just make sure you make it clear who the list is for (ie: if you're in a band - is it a band list, or is it an individual band member list?). We'll compile everything together, and post it all around the new year. What a great...
