Dropkick Murphyshave once again collaborated with Bruce Springsteen. This time around the band will be releasing a new version of their single "Rose Tattoo" with contributions from Springsteen, and proceeds will benefit victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. The Boss was previously featured on "Peg O' My Heart" from the 2011 album Going Out in Style.
Welcome to My Back Pages, a collaborative staff feature that will survey a landscape of renowned classics and unheralded gems alike, most of which no one around here ever writes a word about. The rules are simple and loose: we won’t cover anything from this millennium and we will avoid all or most AP.net favorites—though we might make an exception if something is nearing a milestone anniversary. Beyond that though, anything is fair game. So if you have an album, artist, or genre you would like to see discussed in this feature, feel free to throw us a few recs.
This week we have a double feature on deck for you, and yes we're talking about Springsteen--if you know...

WatchGeoff Rickly's full set from the final date of the Acoustic Basement Tour in the replies. He busts out a bunch of Thursday favorites, some solo material and Bruce Springsteen and Usher covers.
Bruce Springsteenwas honored as the MusiCares Person of The Year, and the tribute concert featured Elton John, Tom Morello, Neil Young, Mumford & Sons and others playing classic songs by The Boss to raise money for charity. Springsteen also auctioned off a signed guitar, but the auction wasn't going that well, so...
Springsteen took the microphone and upped the ante, throwing in a free guitar lesson with himself as the teacher, a ride in the side car of his Harley, eight tickets to the E Street concert of their choice, a backstage tour and lasagna made by his 87-year-old mother, Adele. A woman from New Jersey snapped it up for $250,000, then proceeded to kiss Springsteen on his lips.
Tom Morellowill play guitar in the E Street Band for their Australian tour dates from March 14 - March 31. Morello will be filling in for original E Street Band guitarist Steve Van Zandt who will be filming portions of the new season of his new show, "Lilyhammer."
Bruce Springsteen was joined by Eddie Vedder and Tom Morello in his epic first night stand at Wrigley last night. See a video of the duet with Vedder of "Atlantic City" in the replies.
Our friend Brian Marquis was kind enough to participate in our Backstage Sessions at a recent show in Cambridge, MA. Hit the replies to watch the former Therefore I Am guitarist perform an acoustic rendition of Bruce Springsteen's "Terry's Song," which will appear on his upcoming covers EP for Warped Tour, along with a brand new song entitled "Highways & Heartbreak."
This past Friday in Tampa, Fla., Bruce Springsteen performed "41 Shots" for the first time on his young tour, and the almost-9-minute performance can be seen in the replies. There has been a general consensus that the song, which isn't played very often in live settings, was performed with the ongoing case of Trayvon Martin's shooting and killing in mind. "41 Shots" tells the story of the greatly publicized, horrid death of New York City resident Amadou Diallo, who in 1999 was shot 19 times by four different police officers as he reached into his pocket. Forty-one shots were fired in total and Diallo was unarmed at the time.
Hey everybody, if you look up (no, not at the ceiling, at the top of the homepage!), you'll see a staff content post for today. I wanted to give a snippet out of one of those reviews, a live show review I wrote after watching Bruce Springsteen this Sunday open his Wrecking Ball Tour in Atlanta. I haven't written something like that in a long time - everything just came out fluidly. I felt very strongly about the emotion in the show and I encourage you all to read the blog, and check out Springsteen on tour this year, if you have the means.
fun. sold another 20k of Some Nights last week, landing them at number ten on the charts. Last week's champion, The Boss, brought in another 57k, landing him at number four. Adele sold another 156k, but only hit number two, as One Direction (oh, just what the fuck is this??) grabbed the number one spot.
Bruce Springsteen gave the keynote at SXSW Thursday. Naturally, you can watch it in the replies. It's an hour long - but it's worth the watch. I guess the guy can write speeches too. His world tour kicks off Sunday in Atlanta.
Adele is actually seeing some competition for the top spot on the charts from Bruce Springsteen this week. With 50% of the sales tallied, Bruce is trailing Adele by only 8k copies ... think he has the chance to grab the top spot? Think Thomas is buying-out his local Target?
"The street's on fire in a real death waltz between what's flesh and what's fantasy. Man, the poets down here don't write nothing at all; they just stand back and let it all be."
The dates for the first U.S. leg of Bruce Springsteen's "Wrecking Ball World Tour" can be seen in the replies. I put the European tour dates in the replies as well.
Bruce Springsteen's official lyric video for "We Take Care of Our Own" is in the replies, and you can read a detailed analysis of the track that I wrote here. Wrecking Ball is due out on March 6 via Columbia.
Edit: The opening track "We Take Care of Our Own" can be heard in the replies.
According to the British iTunes website, the name of Bruce Springsteen's new record is Wrecking Ball and its expected release in the UK is March 5. This would theoretically mean a March 6 release in the U.S. The album is slated for 13 songs, which includes two bonus tracks. Fans will recognize "Wrecking Ball" as the name of a song Springsteen wrote and dedicated to the closing of Giants Stadium in 2009; the tracklisting also includes "Land of Hope and Dreams," which is presumably the same song as the B-side from The Rising era, and one of the bonus tracks is "American Land," which Springsteen has played in...
