I cannot believe this isn't a national holiday! Why are we at work?! Bruce Springsteen's legendary and influential breakthrough album, Born To Run, was released 40 years ago today. Our own Craig Manning wrote a neat 40-year retrospective about the perfect record (and I did my own retro review years ago, which isn't as good as Craig's, in a series where I reviewed all 16 of Springsteen's records at the time), and The Atlantic also has a long feature about the album. Please join me in celebrating this holy day in the replies. Additionally, if you've never listened to this album, I very highly encourage you to listen to the thing in its entirety today. "Thunder Road" is the best song of all...

Thomas Nassiff is here to convince you to listen to Bruce Springsteen. Is that the guy that sounds like Brian Fallon?
The quintessential starting point for Springsteen is your dad’s favorite album, Born to Run. In his early days, Springsteen was very much a “DIY” type of artist – he and his band would play in and around New Jersey, go on small tours and generally jam a lot. Remember, this was the ’70s, and there was no true rapid-fire success to be found. Columbia Records signed Springsteen to an album deal in the hopes that it was signing the next Bob Dylan. But while Springsteen is majorly influenced by Dylan, he has never been content to restrict his art to just himself and an...

Out November 17 is Bruce Springsteen's The Album Collection Vol. 1, which contains reissues of Springsteen's first seven studio LPs, comprising all of his work between 1973's Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J. to 1984's super-hit Born In The U.S.A. All of the albums are remastered, and it can be purchased on Amazon now -- for $85 on CD and $200 on vinyl. Woof.

Today is Bruce Springsteen's 65th birthday which should be a national holiday to be honest. He still has more energy on stage than many 20-somethings I see perform today. Discuss this in the replies.
Thomas Nassiff on 09/23/14 - 05:37 PM
Bruce Springsteen will be releasing a graphic novel on November 4th.
The book is loosely based on Springsteen’s song of the same name, and inspired by the 1950′s children’s book “Brave Cowboy Bill.” According to its Amazon page, the book is about “a modern legend of a criminal who starts out in diapers and confronts the roughest edges of adulthood.”

Bruce Springsteen has posted some info about his Record Store Day release.
American Beauty is a collection of songs I cut at home. Upon revisiting them for High Hopes I recognized their potential and Ron Aniello and I worked on them until we’d turned them into the music before you. In the song “American Beauty,” I get to sing in a part of my range I don’t often visit and that along with its ‘guitar wall of sound’ gives it a little ‘exile on E Street’ power. “Mary Mary” is a lovely mystery, a small piece of heartbreak poetry that sneaks up on you with its slippery grove, punctuated string section and spectral lyrics. It came closest to making the High Hopes cut. “Hurry Up Sundown” is a...

Bruce Springsteen just announced a new album called High Hopes for release January 14, 2014 via Columbia Records. Hit the replies to see the artwork and the track listing. This represents his 18th studio album and the follow-up to 2012's No. 1-charting Wrecking Ball. The 12-track album consists of three cover songs as well as two new takes on old songs: Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), who plays live semi-regularly with the E Street Band, will duet with The Boss on a new version of "The Ghost of Tom Joad" and we also get a studio version of "American Skin (41 Shots)" from Live in New York City. The rest of the album is composed of new or previously unreleased material.

Bruce Springsteen will release a new single entitled "High Hopes" (a cover previously released on the ultra-rare Blood Brothers EP) on November 25, and there's reason to believe that it's from a new upcoming record, or possibly a sequel to the expansive Tracks collection of Springsteen B-sides and outtakes.
