Last week I met up with Colin Frangicetto to talk about music and art. I began writing what was supposed to be last week's column, but other factors in my life got in the way, and I returned to it this week. At the same time, discussion brewed again about Buzzmedia "buying up all the punk stock" or whatever, and it just sort of hit me about how much we complain about the price of art and our trades versus the creation of it. You can read my very long rant on the subject here. This week I have one question for you: How much of your time, money and effort have you put into something you loved for more than just the return? Take this weekend to make like The Hold Steady, and try to stay...

Colin Frangicetto and Circa Survive wish to thank everyone for their support of the new record, Violent Waves, which is out today. This past weekend he opened up about the early leak of the record and wanted to share his thoughts.
From the AP.net News Forum...anyway, in reference to the downloading issue being debated by a few people. our position on it really hasnt changed all that much. we have always felt that if someone truly cant afford to buy our albums then we would always rather them download it illegally as opposed to not having it. we were more apt to say " go fucking download it" because we were in situations where a) we did not set the budgets b) because of said ...

Due to a third party, Circa Survive's physical copies of Violent Waves have been delayed at least week. You can read a message from the band in the replies.
From The BandGreetings beautiful Circa fans,
Today is a bittersweet day. We are releasing what we feel to be our best record to date and could not be more proud & excited to share it with you all. That is the sweet part. Unfortunately as we stated previously there were some unexpected issues on the manufacturing end and due to even further error on the part of the plant, all physical orders are in a state of delay.

PureVolume sat down with Anthony Green (Circa Survive) to discuss the band's new album and DIY approach.
From The InterviewI know that the people who listen to our music are epic fans and they’re the people who like the same kind of really passionate, emotional art — the kind that has dark and light. We’re never going to be that kind of giant, marketable band. I feel like we’re the kind of band that are more of the outcast type, the artist type, for people that are a little more eccentric. I could be totally wrong (laughs) but that’s how it seems to me! That’s always been what I’ve been trying to do. We’ve always tried to work with people who would market the band’s weirdness, and I...

You can read our lengthy interview with Circa Survive vocalist Anthony Green, where we discuss the band's new record Violent Waves and their decision to do this record completely on their own, here.
From the InterviewWe have a lot on the line right now. It’s not like I’m living in my parents’ basement – I’m feeding two kids and I’m supporting people. I wanna be able to prove to our fans that you can do this without a record label and you can do this just with your passion and your fire for it. You don’t need a big company to come take your publishing and take your hard earned money in exchange for a small advance and distribution team. And I want to prove that to them, because I think...

If it isn't making dollars, then it isn't making sense. Tell that to Circa Survive who, this week, announced they would be self-releasing their upcoming album, Violent Waves. The band posted two limited pre-orders that gave some of us a double take on the price. Well, both those bundles are now sold out. Going along with my Thursday Discussion yesterday, I've given thought to how we value music and what we're willing to pay on a spectrum of what we have to have to, "I could jam that for $1 and not feel guilty about stealing it." My thoughts are here.

Circa Survive has announced its new album, Violent Waves, which they will release independently on August 28. You can download a new song called "Suitcase" here - and that link also has preorders, which include a $750 option with handwritten lyrics, limited to 11.
From the BandGreetings All!

We are excited to announce that we have chosen to self-release our 4th album, "Violent Waves" on August 28th.
Over the years we have been on both indie and major record labels. We are thankful for the opportunities we've had with them but it's 2012 and we want to try something we've never done before. We produced this record ourselves. This is raw Circa Juice straight from us to you. We also...
