Hello, again. For those of you who don't know, I'm Cody, I'm the comedy staff member around here. I was for a little bit of last year, until I took a bit of a sabbatical to deal with my own comedic career. But I'm back now, though, albeit in a slightly lesser manner. News posting will be slim, unless I feel like they're topics/issues that definitely need to be seen by a larger audience. Gone completely are my album reviews, which shouldn't be too missed, since I only did like five. Coming back in full force, however, are my comedian interviews. I'm making time to fit these into my schedule, because 1.) I love learning from comedians, and 2.) Their unique perspectives almost always...

Hey, everyone. I know it's been awhile since you've heard from me on the news page. I'll deal with that in the morning with some new comedy content for you all. For now, though, I felt this article was the right way to end my sabbatical. Immense social everything site reddit is having a little bit of an internal struggle between their massive default subreddit /r/funny, which is a fairly self-explanatory name (though if you look at its content, it's really not) and the subreddit /r/standupshots, which features comedians posting their own material in easy-to-read imgur format. While not one of the biggest communities on the site, /r/standupshots is one of the most dedicated, but the...

Sorry about the week off and lack of notice, everyone. The guy that owns my house keeps telling me I have to pay rent or something, so I've been looking into getting another one of these "jobs" (before you say anything, yes, I tried running the old '...but I'm an acclaimed comedy journalist' routine by him; surprisingly ineffective) and unfortunately it got in the way of my AP duties for awhile, but I'm back, baby dolls, and with arguably my biggest guest yet. Director of films such as Wet Hot American Summer & Role Models and one of the main creative forces behind such shows as The State & Childrens Hospital, I sat down yesterday with the fantastic David Wain. So head over to my blog to...

Varying heavily from the format of recent talks, my newest "Behind the Bits" with stand-up legend Andy Kindler focuses much, much less on his career and places the spotlight on current comedy events and the state of the industry as a whole. While I'm biased, I consider this one a must-listen, even for non-comedy followers. There's not much else I can say without pointing you to the stream, so head over and give it a listen. It's lengthy, but it's the most enlightening conversation I've had with anyone in a very, very long time. Be sure to check back next week, when my guest is stand-up comic and the voice of Bob's Burgers' Gene Belcher, Eugene Mirman.

So I know it's Thursday, but a couple things got swapped around last second, and so there was a bit of a delay and change on my latest installment of Behind the Bits; things will be back to normal next Wednesday with my guest Andy Kindler. For now, though, head on over to my blog to listen to my half-hour chat with the always-hilarious podcast master Jimmy Pardo. Slight disclaimer: while the audio is far better than it was on my previous chat with Neil Campbell, there's still some kinks being worked out.

A few AP users attended tonight's date of the Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Fest, at the end of which headliner Dave Chappelle had an unusual set. After about five minutes of trying to do his act per usual, repeated shouts of either praise or Chappelle's Show quotes from the crowd prompted him to say that 'you are wasting your money, I'm still getting paid.' As the shouting continued, he stopped his act, sat on the stage, and began smoking, refusing to continue until it quieted down. The audience began to turn on him, and Chappelle began saying how bad the crowd was. After about twenty-five minutes of back-and-forth with the crowd, he began reading from a book aloud on the edge of the...

Today's Behind The Bits is a bit of a departure, because I'm releasing it as an audio interview! I also did not plan on releasing it as an audio interview at first, which is why I paid no mind to the audio quality as I was recording it. So yes, I know it does not sound great, but can we move on? My talk with former UCB Artistic Director and Comedy Bang! Bang! head writer Neil Campbell is great otherwise, so head over to my blog and focus on the positives. Fear not, though, all the kinks were sufficiently worked out in time for my talk with next week's guest, Kumail Nanjiani.

I am beyond excited to unveil what we've landed today. With over 20 years in the industry, Jim Norton has become one of the biggest names not only in dark comedy, but simply in comedy on the whole. Frequently regarded as the 'third mic' on the Opie & Anthony radio show, Norton feels no topic is taboo, and it doesn't take long for that mindset to shine through on any of his specials. We're lucky enough to have an exclusive stream of Norton's newest album Please Be Offended running all day today. Tackling such subjects as the Westboro Baptist Church and the Ground Zero mosque, this record is definitely controversial and definitely hilarious. Head to the replies to give it a listen, and...

Today, I'm very excited to be kicking off a feature that is 1.) my first real jaunt into original content as a staff member, and 2.) going to be a big player as far as comedy coverage on the site goes when looking into the future. I got the chance to have the wonderful Paul F. Tompkins be the first interviewee for my column Behind The Bits, which hopes to gather an in-depth look at the world of stand-up comedy. Head over to my blog to get more of a lowdown on this segment & to read the first half of our chat, and be sure keep an eye out here every Wednesday for future installments.

Comedienne and Laughspin guest columnist Cameron Esposito put together a wonderful, thought-provoking piece on being a gay comic, homophobia in comedy, and being heckled by other stand-ups. Check it out here.
For years guys would come up to me other comics, audience members, married heterosexual audience member couples and proposition me after shows. I would be just talking about my life having a girlfriend, going to a movie with that girlfriend, whatever and for some reason, that would get folks going. Theyd want to talk to me about my sex life, or worse, their sex life. And the thing is, Im not into men. Because Im a lesbian. So Im not into men.
