Because an album a year isn't enough for a member of Franz Ferdinand, he'll unveil a side project next month. Franz Ferdinand guitarist Nick McCarthy’s side project, Box Codax, will drop its debut single into British stores next month. Box Codax features the Franz guitarist and his wife, Manuela, moving away from the art-punk of McCarthy’s full-time band to explore synth-based pop. The act’s first single, “Naked Smile,” which is backed by “Red Wine in Tunis,” is slated for a February release by London’s Thin Man Records.

Franz Ferdinand plans to enter the studio this month to begin recording tracks for the follow-up to last year’s You Could Have it So Much Better (Domino)
