Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno and former Isis members Aaron Harris, Clifford Meyer and Jeff Caxide have formed a new band called Palms. Their debut album will be released later this year on Ipecac Recordings.
Chi Cheng (Deftones) can now lift his legs on request. Cheng was injured in a car accident in 2008 which left him comatose and required surgery to remove portions of his brain. Seven months after the accident, he was no longer on life support, and two years later, he began to emerge from his coma in short intervals.
Deftones will release a vinyl box set entitled Deftones: The Vinyl Collection, 1995 - 2011 on October 25. The set will feature eight 180-gram LPs and is limited to 1,000 pieces. Details can be found here, where you can also pre-order it.
I've written some words on two shows I attended on Saturday. You can read my thoughts here. After reading, I want to discuss this question of longevity: When did punk rock become safe? Is it still safe? Do you think less chances are taken to expand what the idea of punk could or should be, or do you think there continues to be an expansion of the undefinable term? What bands do you feel will be remembered for their music and not their actions and/or vice versa ten years from now? 20? Who will your kids look back and see as influential?
Deftones will be touring this fall with Mastodon and Alice In Chains under the "BLACKDIAMONDSKYE" banner. The bands are running a photo/video uploading contest, in which they're handing out Zoom Q3 cameras and a pass to film any show on the tour. Enter at Buzznet - there are some hilarious/disturbing/spectacular entries so far.
