Happy July! It is the 182nd day of the year, which means there are only 183 days left, which means we are halfway through 2014 so it is time to make lists. Today we present to you our Mid-Year Report, the very best of what came out in the first six months of the year as determined by your AP.net staff members. In the replies, you can check out our compiled staff list along with our individual rankings, and as always, please tell us what we missed, what's ranked too high or too low, or that you 100% agree with everything we've ever said.
Thomas Nassiff on 07/01/14 - 08:40 AM
One last EOTY list: the bold users of the website - known as "Prestigious" members - have contributed their individual "Best Of 2013" lists to create a compiled list. It differs in several regards from the Staff List posted last month - check it out in the replies.
Ryan Dennehy on 01/27/14 - 06:37 AM
We are still reveling in the past over here, and it's time to spotlight some more lists from our earth-shattering Best of 2013 feature. Today I beg of you but also demand you check out the lists of the British mastermind himself Andy Biddulph and the staff's relative new guy Anthony Sorendino - Andy has loud on lock while Anthony is more of a wonderful mixed scene bag. And for some diversity, check out Brian Warren of Weatherbox's list and the gang from one of our favorite labels of the last one million years, Epitaph Records. Are you excited from looking at all of these lists? Has your Spotify overheated? Whoops!
Blake Solomon on 01/15/14 - 06:53 AM
Moving right along with highlighting lists from our Best of 2013 feature, today we're showing off our own mysterious leader Jason Tate's list, because even though he is in charge we somehow haven't done that yet, along with those of awe-inspiring staff members Scott Weber and Alex DiVincenzo. I have worked with Alex for three years and have never not copy/pasted his last name when writing it. We're also bragging about the fact that cool industry insiders like Fred Feldman (Triple Crown owner), Jesse Cannon (producer and author) and Jamie Coletta (SideOneDummy publicist) contributed their favorite picks from 2013 as well. Enjoy and remember, nothing you did last year counted unless you...

Continuing on with highlighting some of our individual Best of 2013 lists, today we're bringing you lists from staff members Thomas Nassiff, Kyle Huntington, and myself. We're also showing off industry lists from O'brother and Greg Dunn of Moving Mountains. There should be no shortage of new music to check out here, so start your Saturday off right with some albums you may have missed from 2013.
Jake Jenkins on 01/11/14 - 09:54 AM
To continue our Best of 2013 highlights, today's staff lists include Keagan Ilvonen, Zac Djamoos, and myself. The industry lists come from Equal Vision Records / Rory Records Bands and Joseph Marro of The Early November. Be on the look out for more featured lists throughout the upcoming days.
Ryan Gardner on 01/10/14 - 07:26 AM
To continue our Best of 2013 highlights, today we're showing off my list, known affectionately as "Pitchfork Lite," Jack Appleby's, and Evan Weiss of Into It. Over It. Check back tomorrow for more staff and industry lists you may have missed.
Ryan Dennehy on 01/09/14 - 06:14 AM
Just as Drew stated yesterday, we will be taking the next week or so to highlight individual lists from our final Best Music of 2013 feature. Today, we're all about the letter C, so check out lists from esteemed staff members Cody Nelson, Chris Collum, and myself, and uncover a few great records that you may have missed last year.
Craig Manning on 01/08/14 - 06:05 AM
Over the next couple of days we will be highlighting specific individual lists from our final Best of 2013 feature. Today, we're showcasing the stellar lists from staff members Deborah Remus and Blake Solomon, along with my very own perfect list.
Drew Beringer on 01/07/14 - 01:43 PM
Only a day or so left of 2013. Well, that certainly went by quickly. On the 6th we will be posting all of our individual staff lists for the best albums of the year (still a little bit longer of that weird lull that hits the music industry) but then we'll be hitting the new year hard. So, this is the last reminder that if you're in a band, work for a label, or are involved in the industry -- we want to feature your favorite albums of the year in our end of the year database. We've made it super simple again this year: just email us your lists to this address and make sure you make it clear who the list is for (if you're in a band, is it a band list, or is it an individual band member...

When we unveiled the AbsolutePunk.net Top 30 of 2013 on Tuesday, you might have noticed an album that didn't quite fit in with the others. Our collective 26th favorite of the year, Jon Hopkins' Immunity stood out amongst the indie and emo records that the site loves most dearly. So Jake Jenkins and I have taken a leap of faith, and compiled a brief list of our ten favorite "dance" records of the year, along with our favorite song. The word is loosely applied here, encompassing everything from club music to headphones records that leave you emotionally catatonic. With all the free time the holidays afford us, why not take a few moments and try something new - maybe you'll find the song...

I'd like to formally welcome you all to the end of 2013. We thought we'd celebrate by unleashing our AbsolutePunk.net Top 30 albums of the year. Compiled from all of the AP.net staff's EOTY lists (which can be found here), we've once again released one of the most complete and eclectic lists you'll see from any publication. From death metal to indie to defend pop punk to #emorevival, we have it all. So I'll shut up now and let our list do the rest of the talking - check it out in the replies. As always, your thoughts, opinions, and disagreements are welcomed. 2013 was a great year for the music world once again - here's to 2014.

The staff are almost done compiling our site-wide list, but we still want label/band/industry people lists! If you're in a band, work for a label, or are involved in the industry -- we want to feature your favorite albums of the year in our end of the year database. We've made it super simple again this year: just email us your lists to this address and make sure you make it clear who the list is for (if you're in a band, is it a band list, or is it an individual band member list? If you work at a record label, what label?). We'll be compiling everything together and post it all around the new year with the official AP.net staff lists as well.

Now that our "Best of 2011" feature is up on the website, over the next week or so we will be highlighting some of the lists from our friends in bands, the industry, etc. Today, I want to take a moment to call attention to American Dream Records' list. You may know him as "anamericangod," one of the most prolific posters in AP.net history. His new label has been focusing on vinyl records, and their list is sure to be a Charlie Simpson hypefest. Check it out.

Also, I'd like to call special attention to the lists from Saves the Day, This is Hell, and O'Brother.

We're in the middle of tallying up all of our End of the Year lists from staff and band/industry friends -- and we will be launching our feature tomorrow. Who do you think is ending up as our staff compiled number one? It was a bitter battle to the end.

As we're preparing our end of the year lists (note: band and label peeps, check here), a user pointed out to me on twitter a list from NPR that showcases the 20 "unhappiest people you will find in the comment sections of end of the year lists." We've done this enough to know just how right on the money they are. So, check it out, don't be "that guy" - and we'll be launching our lists at the end of the year. Guess now I should go finish mine. What was the AOTY?
