Neal Avron talks about how he got involved with Fall Out Boy and reflects on recording From Under the Cork Tree.
I was contacted by Rob Stevenson, who was [Fall Out Boy’s] A&R guy at Island Records. Basically he told me he had this band, Fall Out Boy, and I don't believe I had specifically heard of them. He was very excited about me being involved in the record and said he thought I’d be a perfect fit and could he send me some demos from the upcoming record, which he did. They probably were on CDs at that point. I don't remember how many he sent me—maybe five, a handful—and my initial reaction was that I was not interested in doing the record. I just felt like the songs weren’t that...

Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy recently talked with Purevolume.
For us, we always were amazed at how serious rock bands took themselves. We were always back in our hotel rooms laughing, because this is the best job in the world. I mean, you can take your art seriously, but you should never take yourself too seriously. So I think we also had a blessing, going away for three years. It was great for our band, because when we came back, we knew. In reality, it was three years, but it was more like six years because the Internet moves so fast. So we knew that sonically, we had to change, had to make something that reflected that. So you had to understand that the world had moved on, but at the...

Last week, I got a chance to chat extensively with a personal hero of mine, Butch Walker. We talked about Butch's new album, Afraid of Ghosts, including how the recent loss of his father inspired a new direction for his music, why he decided to have Ryan Adams produce the disc, and why his trademark sarcasm and upbeat songwriting is nowhere to be found. We also touched upon Walker's back catalog, the woeful reasons why no one should be expecting to find Letters on vinyl anytime soon, and why Butch's protege Jake Sinclair took over most of the production duties on the new Fall Out Boy LP.

Check out the interview here.

And so, I think after losing my father, it triggered writing a...

Buzzfeed have sat down to talk with Fall Out Boy about life on tour.
I think at some point, everything about it’s the art and the expectation becomes — you know people expect a certain thing all time, and you’ve gotta sorta challenge that as an artist. But it’s not like, Now there will never be a long song title. When someone becomes more a fan of the song titles than the songs, it’s a problem.

I didn’t know the band at first, and then the photographer told me [the shoot was for] Fall Out Boy. I knew their name but not their music so well. After working with Pete [Wentz] and seeing how he works with the cover and all the details he wants from it I know the details are important to him, so I went and listened to their music, and I love it.

Yesterday Fall Out Boy announced their tour with Wiz Khalifa and the social internet seemed to collectively lose their shit. Hitting up Facebook or Instagram led to a barrage of comments about why Fall Out Boy would want to work with rappers. I even saw a great comment on Instagram about how Fall Out Boy forgot all about punk music like Panic! at the Disco. Hilarity aside, this also ignores that hip-hop has been putting out a lot of music that best embodies the punk ethos over the past few years. XXL Magazine put together a list back in 2013 about Fall Out Boy's collaborations with hip-hop artists, from Kanye West to Lupe Fiasco to The Roots. These collaborations, unique tours, guest...
