Remember the famous potato salad? Well, the creator ended up making over $55,000. He says he'll use roughly $25k to pay all the stretch goals on his project and then use the rest of the money for PotatoStock 2014.
We have a giant outdoor space reserved (The Columbus Commons) for September 27th, 2014, from noon to 8pm. The show is free and all proceeds from selling concessions will go to a permanent fund to end hunger and homelessness in Central Ohio. We are currently working to sign bands and will continue to post updates as we get them!

Nilay Patel, writing for Vox, looks at the economic missteps in Taylor Swift's recent Wall Street Journal op-ed.
Taylor makes a nice little argument in favor of paying for music. "Music is art," she says, "and art is important and rare. Important, rare things are valuable. Valuable things should be paid for. It's my opinion that music should not be free, and my prediction is that individual artists and their labels will someday decide what an album's price point is." This is an impressively-constructed syllogism. It is also deeply, deeply wrong.

The single hardest economic problem posed by the internet is the end of scarcity.

We've received the following message from Maura from Mixtapes in regard to yesterday's Warped Tour performance.
To clear the air a bit:

First of all, I wanted to say that what Ryan said was wrong and that I'm sorry for it, even if he isn't. As many of you may know who know Mixtapes, what was said on stage the other day was meant to be a joke and was said in a sarcastic manner. Ryan corrected himself on stage shortly after.

That being said, there are some things that just shouldn't be joked about in the first place and sexual assault is one of them. I know personally as I've been kissed and touched without permission multiple times on stage and off since being in Mixtapes and...

Lana Del Rey has taken to Twitter (and it looks like since deleted) to respond to the Guardian article we posted about last week. Although Ms. Del Rey directly calls out "Alexis" (probably referring to Alexis Petridis who wrote the review of Ultraviolence for The Guardian), the author of the original piece was Tim Jonze. Tim Jonze has written a follow-up piece that includes the audio files from the original interview.
"i regret trusting the guardian- i didn’t want to do an interview but the journalist was persistent. Alexis was masked as a fan but was hiding sinister ambitions and angles Maybe he’s actually the boring one looking for something interesting to write about. His leading...

Cody Payne has posted a statement in regard to AJ from The Dangerous Summer claiming his bank accounts were drained.
When The Dangerous Summer broke up last September, I walked away from that band not realizing anything was wrong. I was so happy for AJ - he was married to the love of his life, he was becoming a new father and I was nothing but happy for him. We hugged and it was over. That break up was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to deal with in my life. Yes, we may have had some issues as a band and said things we didn’t mean, but we were brothers.

It’s been 9 months and things between us have obviously completely went in the opposite direction. I know I am not...

Nick Hipa, former As I Lay Dying guitarist and current Wovenwar member, has written a post about his thoughts after the Tim Lambesis trial.
Last Friday I sat in a courtroom to support a friend. For the better part of a decade our professional and personal lives were woven in a relationship akin to family. As if family, the intention of my attendance was to publicly acknowledge the deep care and compassion I hold for this individual.

I watched as she searched for the strength to behold her transgressor for the first time in over a year since learning of his plot to have her murdered. I listened to her describe the love she once possessed for this man whom she adored, trusted, and...

Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne has spoken, in length, with Rolling Stone. And yes, he addresses the claims made by former drummer Kliph Scurlock.

I would say that I'm very sorry, to anybody that is following my Instagram or my Twitter, if I offended anybody of any religion, any race, any belief system. I would say you shouldn't follow my tweets; you shouldn't even probably want to be a Flaming Lips fan because we don't really have any agenda. We go about doing things through our imagination. And I would say that if we wrongly stepped on anybody's sacredness, then we're sorry about that. That was never our intention.

Miss May I have released a second, longer statement about the passing of a fan at their concert.
Hey everyone, apologies for the radio silence these last couple of days. After what happened we've all taken some time to reflect but we had to speak up today to give our heartfelt thanks. First and foremost, to those who've reached out tooffer their sympathies or who've kept Alberto and his family in their thoughts and prayers. In particular to all those who donated to his family; after only a few days they have almost reached their fundraising goal. If you can spare any amount, no matter how small, it will be greatly appreciated. You can do so here.

We're also looking into an auction....

Miss May I have posted a statement about the death of a fan at their show on Friday.
As many of you will have heard, Alberto Scott, a Miss May I fan in attendance at our Webster Hall show on Saturday nighttragically died. We were deeply shocked and saddened to hear this news. We are awaiting a full report from the New York Police Department. In the meantime, we’d ask that all your thoughts and prayers be with his family. We’ve be made aware of a webpage that is raising funds to help pay for his funeral costs. We will be making a contribution and we’d strongly urge others to do so.

A while back we reported on the "Secret Project" clothing line started by Ryan of Mixtapes. After hearing that the project had been shut down via Twitter yesterday, we reached out to find out what was going on. Ryan let us know that he has currently suspended the line as he's got too much other stuff going on. He let us know that he's going to refund everyone's money and send out the shirts that he did have made. If you have any issues at all you can send an email here.

A spokesperson for Gail Shea has responded to Morrissey's comments about Canada's seal hunt.
This is clearly just another case of a millionaire celebrity, desperate for a hobby, shamelessly regurgitating misinformation and myths that fringe animal-rights groups have been pushing for years. In the future, I would urge Mr. Morrissey to consider the impact that his ignorant and inflammatory statements have on the livelihoods of thousands of hard-working men and women in rural communities.

The guitarist for As I Lay Dying, Phil Sgrosso, has posted a response to the post released on the band's website earlier today.
This morning an update was posted over at www.asilaydying.com on the current happenings and individual futures of all the bands' members. For Jordan, Josh, Nick, Phil, management, and record label, this was an interesting first time read as all parties were oblivious to its construction, intent, and release.

Though Tim is the only one with access to the As I Lay Dying site, the rest of us have been releasing content through our personal social media accounts to reveal that we are carrying on in a new band. Our truest intentions were to make this unveiling...

The Beastie Boys finally settled their lawsuit with GoldieBlox (the toy company that parodied their song "Girls" in a viral ad).
The settlement will include an apology from GoldieBlox, to be displayed on the company's website, as well as donation by GoldieBlox to charities selected by the Beastie Boys that encourage science, technology, engineering and mathematics education for girls.

After the whole "boycotting Spotify" thing, Forbes took a look at the math behind Spotify royalties and came to the conclusion that they're better than terrestrial radio -- in fact about 16 times better. They also get a little cynical at the news that Thom and Atoms for Peace have helped launch a new live music streaming service just a few days after criticising Spotify, but I'm more interested in if we should be comparing streaming services to radio plays or purchased rates. Given that you don't "own" the music you stream, I'm more inclined to side with the idea that it's closer to a radio play (and should be compensated as such), but I think those rates need to be higher as well....

We Are the In Crowd answered an interview question about the infamous "creative control" tweets.
From the InterviewTay: Yeah. We haven’t really talked about this at all. Basically, there was a decision that was made for “Kiss Me Again” that wasn’t a make or break decision, but it was something where we wanted it one way, and somebody at the label wanted it the other way. It kind of burned a little bit hearing, “Nope, it’s not going to happen.” For me it was just a spur of the moment, “This is bullshit” kind of thing. I’m over it. I’m definitely over it.
Jordan: A lot of the Internet thinks that because we’re a pop band that we don’t write our own songs or there’s someone...

Invisible Children have posted a message from Jason Russell's wife after the events of last week.
From the BlogThank you to those who continue to support both us, and Invisible Children. The organization is an extension of our family, and we hope that Jason’s vision and work toward peace in the region remains the focus, and comes as soon as possible, as they continue to work in his absence. We would, again, like to make it clear that Jason’s incident was in no way the result of drugs or alcohol. The preliminary diagnosis he received is called brief reactive psychosis, an acute state brought on by the extreme exhaustion, stress and dehydration. Though new to us, the doctors say...

In a follow-up to a previous post about how Iraqi teenagers were being stoned to death for "emo" haircuts, a new article has been posted that goes into more depth about the Iraqi government's role in these activities.
From the ArticleThe new Iraq is full of contradictions. On the one hand, it has allowed space for kids to listen to Western music, and dress in new styles, because families now have the internet, are exposed to a plethora of media outlets, and have access to satellites and new televisions, which were limited in the past, because of international sanctions. At the same time, various Islamist groups have taken power, and their followers in the government and security...

Last night we tried out our first ever "live-blog" while the Grammys were going on. A few beers, a few snarky AP.net staff members, and a pretty amusing time, I thought, for everyone involved. Definitely something we'll be trying again in the future for big live events. The community is what makes this place special, different, and unique. With that, there's just a few follow-up thoughts I wanted to write about: At the end of the night, I don't think there was a doubt in anyone's mind that Adele flat out won the night. One of the best performances, cleaned up the awards, and was virtually universally praised. And yet, what I think went (unfortunately unnoticed) was that this was...
