This week, an incredibly influential label shut down its production. Hydra Head Industries isn't the first label to close its doors, and it won't be the last. Bringing my column back this week, you can head here for some thoughts of where contemporary labels should take from Hydra Head's running core of business and community. After giving it a once over, my question today is do you think labels will be obsolete in the future, and what can they do to keep production going? Hydra Head's currently taking pre-orders for the vinyl version of Harvey Milk's latest opus, A Small Turn of Human Kindness, which arrives January 25. The record comes with a download code, and if you order now there's a discount on other Harvey Milk merch.

On November 16 Hydra Head will release Jesu's Heartache & Dethroned. The album comprises the 2004 Heartache EP, which is long out-of-print, and an EP of unreleased material from the same period. It will be available on vinyl, CD, and digital formats. Check the replies for the sweet gatefold LP layout done by ISIS' Aaron Turner.

Kayo Dot will deliver a world premeire of their upcoming Hydra Head album Stained Glass on August 24 at The Bowery Electric in Manhattan. Support will be provided by Cleric and Bad Girlfriend. More info about the show can be found here.

Hydra Head Records has opened its digital store. They are also offering a free 22 track sampler with some rare and unreleased tracks.

Hydra Head Records will release a split 12" with ISIS and The Melvins on July 13th. The LP will be available from the bands on tour in mid-June.

Pre-orders are now up for Bergraven's album, Dödsvisioner. The disc is scheduled to have a US release on May 22nd through Hydra Head. The track "Ekot av bikt" can be heard right here.

A media player for Zozobra's (Cave In, Old Man Gloom) album, Harmonic Tremors, has been launched right here. Harmonic Tremors recently saw a release through Hydra Head.
