The Maccabees are currently supporting Mumford & Sons on their "Gentlemen Of The Road" tour in North America (fun fact: The Maccabees actually took Mumford & Sons out on their first ever proper UK tour just before Sigh No More was released) and last night Marcus Mumford joined the band on stage to perform "Pelican". Check it out in the replies.

The Maccabees guitarist, Felix White, recently sat down with BrumNotes to talk their long-awaited fourth album (end of July, you'll all be pleased to know on my behalf), the long path that lead to it and their support slot with Mumford and Sons in North America.
"We actually took Mumford & Sons on their first ever tour, it was just before their first record Sigh No More blew up,” says Felix. “It was on the tour for our second, Wall of Arms, in 2009. Now look at them. You cannot believe how big they are in America. They’re playing in front of 20,000 people a night – they’re pretty well off the radar. But those shows, as a support, they are the least nerve-wracking. You’re so far away...

Mumford & Sons shared some thoughts on streaming service Tidal in a recent interview.
“We don’t want to be part of some Tidal ‘streaming revolution’ nor do we want to be Taylor Swift and be anti-it,” Marshall says. “I don’t understand her argument, either. The focus is slightly missed. Music is changing. It’s fucking changing. This is how people are going to listen to music now—streaming. So diversify as a band. It doesn’t mean selling your songs to adverts. We look at our albums as stand-alone pieces of art, and also as adverts for our live shows.”

Mumford and Sons reveled in an interview with Rolling Stone they're thinking about rapping on their next album.
"Like, hip-hop," Mumford says with a grin. "We really want to rap. We've just got so much to say – saying it through a melody doesn't really work for me. We've been talking with Jay-Z about it, you know. It's gonna be a fresh experience for our band." Does the band rap in the practice room? "Yeah," Mumford says. "We're like, 'Motherfucker!'"

Mumford & Sons have six different songs from their new album, Babel, that debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 this past week -- the most since The Beatles did it back in 1964.
Joe DeAndrea on 10/05/12 - 03:49 PM
Mumford and Sons officially had the best debut week album sales of 2012 with over 600,000 copies sold. Babel had the second biggest debut week in digital sales ever with 420,000 downloads, just falling behind Lady Gaga's Born This Way last year. The only other indie distributed album to do better was The Eagles' Long Road Out of Eden back in 2007. Another interesting fact is 1 out of every 10 Spotify users in the US streamed at least one track from Babel.
