Jon Caramanica, writing for The New York Times.
On “Purpose,” (RBMG/Def Jam) Mr. Bieber steps down from the cross, still hemorrhaging. Apart from its huge already-released hits “Where Are Ü Now” and “What Do You Mean?” this album exists less as a contribution to popular music than as a plot point in Mr. Bieber’s public narrative. He has gone astray. He is sorry. “You know I try,” he sings, “but I don’t do well with apologies.”

Billboard is reporting that One Direction actually have a financial stake in 5 Seconds of Summer. By the way, when my time machine works, I'm going to go back and find out how to invest in Fall Out Boy, Paramore, and Fun.
According to the documents filed at London’s Companies House, the split allots for 120 shares: 1D holds 50 percent, and the managers hold the other 50. Looking at 5SOS music sales so far, for instance -- 788,000 albums and EPs and 2.4 million song downloads sold, per Nielsen SoundScan -- that would amount to $250,000 in earnings for Modest and 1D, or $25,000 added to each 1D member’s bank account, Billboard estimates. Consider bigger revenue generators like...

One of the writers of One Direction's "Steal My Girl", Julian Bunetta, has commented on the whole hoopla over the piano lick.
When we sat down and played the piano lick, nobody had any references in their head about what they wanted to write or anything and then I saw all the things (comments) about that (Journey song). At the end of the day, the lyric and the melody have nothing to do with any other song that I have ever heard. Sometimes there's only so many things you can do with a piano at that tempo. There is an age-old saying that great minds think alike so, naturally, sometimes people are going to write on the same inspirational wave lengths and come up with things that are...

Do you like piano!? Pop-bands like pianos. Spin has pointed out that the little piano melody used by One Direction at the start of their new song, the one that Hayley Williams from Paramore mentioned sounds a lot like New Found Glory's "It's Not Your Fault" (still an underrated album), also kinda sounds like Journey's awesome "Faithfully." Turns out: Pop bands do like pianos! Stream all three songs in the replies.

The 1975 were guests on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show this morning and took part in the "Call or Delete" prank phonecall game. Matty Healy not only prank called Niall Horan and Harry Styles of One Direction but also confirmed that he is writing music for the group (which may add more of an explanation to this photo). Listen to the whole bit in the replies.

Fall Out Boy and The 1975 in the same room together? This is relevant to my interests. Those other guys look like One Direction ... I don't care as much about them.

One Direction's new album is projected to sell between 500-575k copies its first week.
From the Article"Take Me Home" is projected to sell over 500,000 copies by Nov. 18, with hopes that the number could reach as high as 575,000. If the album does see that kind of success, it will find itself just behind the year's two most successful records -- Taylor Swift's "Red" which sold 1.2 million in its first week, and Mumford & Sons' "Babel" which sold 600,000.

One Direction says that Ed Sheeran is "one of the best lyricists of our generation." Sheeran wrote a new One Direction track entitled, "I Would," which will be featured on their upcoming album.
From the Article"He's just one of the best lyricists of our generation, so having the chance to work with him is amazing. It was really important for us," he said. "His method recording wise, you just do a couple of takes because he likes to keep it really raw and really real."

John Mayer coasts at the top of the charts again this week, moving almost 68,000 additional copies of Born and Raised - a 71 percent decline from his meteoric sales last week. Adele and One Direction come in after Mayer, while Regina Spektor and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros see the two highest debuts at No. 4 (38,000) and No. 6 (29,000), respectively. Sigur Ros also saw an excellent debut week, cracking the top 10 and No. 9 with 24,000 copies of Valtari. Equally as awesome, fun. saw a huge rise in sales, increasing 57 percent and selling another 17,000 copies of Some Nights - perhaps partially in thanks to the awesome music video they came out with.
