The 87th Oscars begin tonight at 4pm PST on ABC. Like the Grammys' we're creating an open thread here on the homepage to talk about the awards, the winners, and all of that jazz. All of the nominees can be found here.

The Grammys air tonight on CBS at 8/7 CT and this thread will be open during the duration of the show to talk about/make sarcastic comments about the awards show. The entire thing is also streaming online. And, if the Grammys aren't for you, I recommend at least reading through Bob Dylan's speech.
These songs didn't come out of thin air. I didn't just make them up out of whole cloth. Contrary to what Lou Levy said, there was a precedent. It all came out of traditional music: traditional folk music, traditional rock 'n' roll and traditional big-band swing orchestra music. I learned lyrics and how to write them from listening to folk songs. And I played them, and I met other people that...

The Emmys are on tonight, I figured I'd point to the open thread going on in the entertainment forum about it for those that would like to discuss it.

Well, if you're not busy discussing if Record Store Day has been ruined, there are some cool releases coming out. Plus, I say getting outside to visit your local record store with some friends is as good an excuse as any (vinyl and beer is the secret to long living). We've created this open thread to discuss all the releases for this year. We'll keep it open throughout the weekend to post about what you've found and picked up and/or share any other deals that show up. Check the first post for some thoughts from staff on what they're looking to grab this year.

The 56th Grammy Awards will begin at 8 PM EST tonight on CBS and this is your open thread to predict winners, discuss said winners, and talk about the performances. Check out which artists were nominated for what category, as well as my predictions in the major four categories. There are a lot of star-studded performances tonight, including Lorde, Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons, Beyoncé, Metallica, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Daft Punk making a rare live television performance with the iconic Stevie Wonder, and a monster collaboration between Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, Dave Grohl, and Lindsay Buckingham. Let's have some fun.

Beats Music, the new streaming service, has launched. Is it amazing and the new radio/playlist experience you've always wanted? Or is it more like Beats headphones and overrated crap?

If you know of some good online deals for "Cyber Monday" (what a stupid name) -- post about them in the replies.

Hey all, I know some of you don't like me offering my opinion in news posts, but it is my opinion that everyone should have a happy and wonderful Thanksgiving ... as well as a great "after Thanksgiving sit-on-my-ass-and-veg" day. Stay safe and eat lots.

The 30th annual MTV Video Music Awards show will take place tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. Tonight's show has a great line-up of performances from the likes of Kanye West, Drake, Justin Timberlake, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, and more. The list of presenters is also stocked full of A-listers and Fall Out Boy is nominated for "Best Rock Video" as well. The show begins at 9 PM EST and you can discuss, debate, and make fun of whatever happens during the show in here. I heard some popular '90s boy band might reunite tonight. I hope it's 98 Degrees.

The 85th Academy Awards are tonight at 8:30 PM EST. The gala will be hosted by Seth MacFarlane. Discuss the fashion, the nominees, the snubs, and the winners in this thread all night long. Have fun.

Tonight at 8 PM EST is the 55th annual Grammy Awards and this is the thread to post in with any and all of your opinions about this year's winners, losers, and performers. Unfortunately for me, this isn't being broadcast live in Los Angeles (because that makes sense), so I'll be following along in here and on twitter before the tape-delayed broadcast airs here, so don't let me down! You can check out the full list of nominees here.

It's that time of year again. The one day in the entire year where MTV plays music videos during primetime hours (well snippets at least). For a channel that only shows full length music videos in the wee hours of the night, I find it hilarious that this awards show is still a thing. Anyways, some of the artists we cover have a prominent role in tonight's spectacle. This year's breakout band fun. is nominated for a handful of awards, including "Best New Artist" where they'll be against Frank Ocean and Joe DeAndrea's favorite artists One Direction and Carly Rae Jepsen. Ocean will also be performing live, as will be Green Day and Taylor Swift, who will be slut-shaming someone. In...

Cover songs are either hit or miss with me - we've got bands that release full albums full of them, labels that release comps full of them, and sometimes just the one off. When they're done well, I can listen to them for hours. What are your favorites?

The other day I was looking through a bunch of my old band t-shirts. Stuff that kinda fits me still, but is mostly in the "wear it to the gym" pile. While sorting through some extremely old Brand New, New Found Glory, and Midtown t-shirts. I realized that I bought my first Midtown album after seeing one of the New Found Glory guys sporting the t-shirt in a music video. This led me to tweet something about it, and ask if others discovered bands in a similar fashion. There were a lot of responses. A whole lot of people talked about Blink 182 introducing them to a plethora of bands (The Ataris, Fenix TX, J.E.W). Others talked about the days when they would read linear notes to see...

I saw Mark Hoppus was talking on Google+ about the new Blink 182 album. That got me thinking it may be fun to have a similar thread here; given the history the band has on this site. So, what are your favorite new songs from Neighborhoods? I've got to say that "After Midnight", "Wishing Well," and "Kaleidoscope" are early favorites. It looks like the general consensus is that it was well worth the wait.
