Although they weren't noted in the chart we posted earlier, SoundScan is reporting in its official counts that Hot Water Music sold just over 10,000 copies in first-week sales of Exister, their first record in eight years - good for an opening at the No. 33 position on the charts. Congratulations to the band and to Rise Records.

Madonna topped the charts this week with over 350k sold. Our friends The Used hit #8 with around 27k copies sold, and The All-American Rejects did a little over 17k. Fun. remains strong with another 18k to their credit.

fun. sold another 20k of Some Nights last week, landing them at number ten on the charts. Last week's champion, The Boss, brought in another 57k, landing him at number four. Adele sold another 156k, but only hit number two, as One Direction (oh, just what the fuck is this??) grabbed the number one spot.

Adele is actually seeing some competition for the top spot on the charts from Bruce Springsteen this week. With 50% of the sales tallied, Bruce is trailing Adele by only 8k copies ... think he has the chance to grab the top spot? Think Thomas is buying-out his local Target?

This week's record sales charts are in, and it looks like Attack Attack!'s This Means War managed to sneak into the top 10 overall with 17,500 sold. Congrats to Rise Records. Perhaps more importantly, they outsold Nickelback - who came in at No. 11. Please leave your thoughts on this in .gif form in the replies. Also relevant: Adele sold under 100,000 units of 21 for the first time in a long time, but if you count sales of 19, she was still over that benchmark.

Head to the replies to see a screen shot of this week's sales numbers, according to HITS Daily Double. Adele's 21 once again tops the chart - moving a ridiculous 123,000 units while the second place album - Drake's Take Care - shifts 43,000 records. A friend of mine and I have been keeping track of Adele for a few months now, and as far as we can tell, she has not sold anything less than 100K in every week since 21's release on Feb. 22, 2011. Worth adding is that her last record - 19 - is consistently in the top albums as well. This week, it's all the way up at No. 14, selling more than many of the biggest records to come out this year despite the fact that it came out in 2008. How does...

Soundscan is reporting vinyl record sales of 3.9 million units over the course of 2011, which is a 39.3 percent gain of the 2010 numbers (2.8 million). In the replies you can see a graphic of what the growth of vinyl record sales looks like in bar graph form. I wrote about this topic last year, and a gain of 1 million units over the last year is amazing. Have you started buying vinyl yet?

2010's album sales were terrible. Lowlights: Only 13 records sold over a million copies (and only 4 of those sold over 2 million copies). The highest selling album went to Eminem, which sold 3.4 million copies. An impressive sum, until you think about his Marshall Mathers LP selling 10 million copies a decade ago. Read all about the misery here, you theives.
