Jason Tate on 11/24/14 - 11:46 AM
Just a quick reminder for all Chicago-based users and Riot Fest attendees that we will be hosting an unofficial after-party on Saturday night at Five Star Bar with PropertyOfZack. Zack and I will be playing pop-punk and emo songs and we would love to meet everyone from the AP.net/POZ community who's in town! Riot Fest Chicago begins tomorrow and while three-day passes are sold out, you can still nab single-day and two-day passes.
Thomas Nassiff on 09/11/14 - 01:36 PM

In the replies you can scope out our five must-see acts for Friday of Chicago's event, as selected by fellow AP.net staffer Caitlin DeWeese and myself. Let us know who you're excited to see at Riot Fest, and pick up your tickets here.

I find myself being extremely picky with music festivals in my old age, but the ridiculous(ly awesome) lineup at Riot Fest Toronto left me no choice but to make plans to attend. Over the past few weeks, I have been trying to finalize a schedule so I can make sure to catch every band I'm eager to see, but it took me only a few minutes upon starting on an actual list to say "Screw it, I'm just going to roam around, enjoy good music as I go, and have some delicious food and beer." That seems about as solid of a plan as it gets with my experience at festivals, except there are 5 bands at this year's Toronto Riot Fest that I will most definitely make sure to see -- rain or shine. Head to the...

Edit: This contest is over! Thanks to everyone who entered and if you didn't win, remember tickets are still available!

Riot Fest is set to hit Chicago for its 10-year anniversary next weekend, on September 12-14. If you somehow haven't been keeping up with our coverage of the festival, here's everything we've posted about it so far. We're happy to be giving away two pairs of general admission, three-day passes today in this thread. This includes only entry into the festival, so if you enter to win the passes, you have to be sure that you can attend. To enter, just paste the best sports-related GIF that you can find on the Internet in this thread. I will choose two winners to receive...

Just like last year, we'll be hosting an unofficial Riot Fest afterparty during all the festivities on September 12-14 in Chicago. Glamour Kills is presenting three straight nights of DJ sets at Five Star Bar, and Saturday is the AP.net / PropertyOfZack party. Zack Zarrillo and I will be playing pop-punk and emo songs just like we did last year, and it was great to meet a BUNCH of community members, so we invite everyone to come out and say hi. Friday night will be hosted by Bob Nanna (Braid) and Mark Rose (Spitalfield), while Sunday night will be anchored by booking agent wunderkind Ryan Soroka. There's a flier in the replies!

Jason Tate on 08/26/14 - 11:29 AM
So much for watching bands play! To celebrate its tenth year in Chicago (Sept. 12-14), Riot Fest organizers have moved the festival to the northern section of Humdoldt Park, with an expanded footprint, more stages and more rides. The full press release is in the replies and you can find me playing mini-golf all weekend next month. Also, tickets are still on sale.

Riot Fest's Denver stop (Sept. 19-21) has been moved to Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium after Byers, CO recently denied the festival a permit. The festival will recreate the original May Farms campground aesthetic at the new location and all original tickets will be honored of course (and tickets are still available). They're also giving free passes to all Byers residents who want them and are allowing Byers businesses to set up booths at the festival at no cost. Check out the full press release in the replies, which includes a statement from the festival and details about a new college scholarship initiative. Yay!
Outside of bringing the May Farms aesthetic to the new site,...

Riot Fest has been denied a permit for the 3-day music event in Byers, Colorado.
Riot Fest, which features well known rock and punk acts such as Primus, The Cure, Wu-Tang Clan and Slayer, was scheduled for Sept. 19-21 at May Farms in Byers. It made its first appearance in the state last year, also at May Farms. The festival was expected to attract 17,000 people a day to Byers, a town of just over 1,000 residents located about 40 miles east of Denver.

It's not clear how organizers of the festival will deal with the thousands of fans who have purchased tickets to Riot Fest or whether they will try to find an alternate location in the state.

Riot Fest has posted the following response:...
Jason Tate on 07/11/14 - 01:18 PM
The Denver Post writes that Riot Fest's Denver stop (scheduled for Sept. 19-21) could be in trouble this year. People from the town where it's held complained at an open house / community forum about noise (one man said he had to close his windows!), drug use, traffic and other "nasty things."
The future of Riot Fest in Colorado, held for the first time in the state last year at May Farms near Byers, remains uncertain as Arapahoe County officials wrestle with whether to allow the event to continue this year. No decision on the event's future was made Tuesday evening.

Those who packed the American Legion Hall in this small, rural town 40 miles east of Denver to address the Arapahoe...

All praise. Riot Fest finally kicks off in Chicago today at 4pm local time, and AP.net will be on site providing coverage each day. Refresh yourself on today's lineup/set times and check out the highly anticipated "food lineup" in the replies (they ripped off the Coachella lineup flier – it's pretty funny). Also, feel free to use this thread as an open discussion for all things Riot Fest today and keep up with our Riot coverage all weekend.

Drew Beringer on 09/11/13 - 03:29 PM
Today we're happy to announce that AP.net and PropertyOfZack will partake in an unofficial post-Riot Fest night at Red Door in Chicago this Friday. The night will feature a playlist chosen by Zack and I, so rest assured that the tunes will be good unless you hate everything we like. You can see all the information on Facebook; our playlist will start at midnight (one hour following Fall Out Boy's set). Since a lot of forum members have been asking about a community meet-up in Chicago, we figured this would be a great time to invite everyone to come together, listen to some good music and hang out following Riot Fest's first day. Hope to see everyone out there! Also: Uber will be offering...

Say Anything won't be performing at Riot Fest this year due to a medical issue with an unnamed member of the band. A statement from Max Bemis is below; we send our best wishes along. Riot Fest set times were posted yesterday.
Hey y’all, with one of our members dealing with some pressing and unavoidable medical issues, we regretfully have to pull out of Riot Fest. Suffice to say we are bummed. Our sincere apologies to anyone hoping to see us. Meanwhile, you guys enjoy the great line up at Riot this year and we promise to make it up when we tour our new record in 2014.

Love,
Max

PropertyOfZack has posted a new Perspective on how Riot Fest and co-founder Mike Petryshyn went about creating their Chicago lineup. POZ is calling it the "best festival lineup we'll ever see," so you can go ahead and debate that in the replies. Also, tickets are on the Riot website and all of our Riot Fest 2013 coverage is here.
Thomas Nassiff on 09/06/13 - 01:09 PM
We're continuing our coverage of Riot Fest 2013 this week in a slightly oddball way. You won't find a list of things to do or bands to watch in this feature, but instead, we're bringing you something more applicable to your daily life. If you follow @RiotFest on Twitter, you already know that whoever manages their account is an American hero. Couple this with the fact that social media is very serious business these days – no, really, the Internet is super serious – and it only made sense to ask this mystery tweeter to compile a "How To Tweet" clinic for us. Also, remember to pick up your Riot Fest tickets for Chicago and Denver if you haven't yet.

Riot Fest 2013 is rolling up into Toronto this weekend (August 24th and 25th) and we decided it would be fun to give away two pairs of two-day passes. Does that excite you? The two day festival will feature acts like The Replacements, A Day To Remember, Every Time I Die, Best Coast, and more. Details on how to win one of the pairs can be found in the replies. Riot Fest Chicago and Denver are just over a month away (Toronto is even sooner!), and to kick off our coverage of the festival, we're bringing you our "Riot Fest for Dummies" guide. We've basically made a feature that serves to provide a step-by-step process for getting yourself to any of the three Riot Fest destinations. This is nothing that you couldn't find with some online searches, so the value in this guide is the convenience factor. Check it out in the replies and let us know if you're planning on heading out to any of the upcoming Riot weekends.
