Per Billboard, BMG has purchased Rise Records for an undisclosed amount of money. The label will retain its ownership and still operate out of Portland, and be the beneficiaries of larger global distribution under BMG. This news comes on the heels of Fearless Records being acquired by Concord Bicycle Music.
Under the deal, Rise will continue to operate out of Portland with Ericson at the helm of the digital-savvy company, but now the label will have BMG's resources for pushing its artists beyond the U.S., where it currently generates the vast majority of its revenue.

"Rise Records is more than a record label," noted Laurent Hubert, president of creative & marketing at BMG Chrysalis...

I recently spoke with Silverstein vocalist Shane Told for a very long in-depth interview in which we talked about the Discovering The Waterfront ten-year anniversary headliner, where he was at personally when writing the record, signing to Rise Records, new album I Am Alive In Everything I Touch, and more. This is one of my favorite interviews that I've ever done, and I hope everyone takes the time to check it out. You can read it here.
Yeah man, I was really trying to find myself at that time, I think. I think “Call It Karma” was a song that really summed that up, the lyrics for that song were written very much how I write a lot of songs, where there are multiple meanings. I told...

In addition to talking about the tour, we also talked about their time at Knotfest, radio crowds vs Warped Tour crowds, the U.S. Military, and a lot more. You can read the interview here.
I think you get more of an opportunity to get love from a crowd quickly in the Warped Tour side of things. I think it’s a younger group that are a lot more excited to latch onto new music, they’re coming to that show ready to pick up t-shirts from their favorite new band, ready to have somebody win them over at every...

Immediately following Woe, Is Me, I knew I still wanted to do music, but I just didn’t know at that point whether it would be a new band, solo album, whatever. So last October, almost a year ago I went to Florida with Tom Denney, and he said “I don’t know what you’re thinking about doing with music, but if you want to come down and just...

Honestly, you know how everyone says they’re their own worst critic? When I listen back to An Eye For An Eye, there’s a lot of shit that I probably would’ve changed lyrically. Some stuff we tried to write in for our fans, like the cheesy one-liners that are there because they make sense in context of the song, but you pull it out by itself and it’s like “Wow, that’s super lame.” I kind of want to stray...

You can check out the first part of our interview with Like Moths To Flames vocalist Chris Roetter here. In this half we talk about the band's time on this summer's All-Stars Tour, the band's live performance, as well as their current album, An Eye For An Eye. Come back tomorrow for part two.
No, we’re trying to change it up and go with more of a plan as a unit, as opposed to a plan as individuals. We’re trying to sit down and take the pre-production and the writing more into consideration instead of the studio to come and go “Shit, we have to write 15 songs”. We’re going in with the intent of having 10-15 songs, and then trimming it down to record 2 or 3.

It's pretty hard to argue that Rise Records isn't one of the top independent record labels out there. Thinking about it, the first time I had ever heard of the label was when Drop Dead, Gorgeous played at a Christian festival Tomfest in July of 2006. I remember learning about new bands through the label's sampler CDs (remember those?) - this was one of my first exposures to bands like The Devil Wears Prada and more. The following AbsolutePlaylist is a collection of what I consider to be Rise Records very best - hopefully you find a new artist or two to check out and support. Definitely include links to your own favorites in the replies.

On this record we don’t focus as much on the sad as much, it’s a very empowering record. We talk about belonging to that group of people that all feel the same way; we all belong to it, and we’re more than welcome to anyone who wants to be part of this world with us

Head to Billboard to read an article on Rise Records' "Unlikely, Exponential Success."
