At last night's special RX Bandits' acoustic show at The Art Theater in Long Beach, Matt Embree revealed that the band has decided to regroup officially and that they're over halfway done with a new record. They also plan to continue doing acoustic sets at home once a year.

Now, the Cali ska-punks have revealed the fourth cut off the EP: Fugazi’s “Cashout”. Speaking about the song choice and the faithful cover, Bandits guitarist Steve Choi said, “Fugazi is one of our biggest influences musically and ethically. We could easily do a whole album of Fugazi covers, but after going back and forth we settled on a later tune, this one being from the band’s last full length album The Argument.”
So as everyone already knows, RX Bandits are returning for their ten year anniversary of The Resignation. With the tour, the guys are releasing a covers EP and we're lucky enough to bring you the band's cover of Weezer's "Surf Wax America" from their iconic, Blue Album. Jump to the replies to give it a listen and peep what guitarist Steve Choi had to say about the cover below.
Ah Weezer, ubiquitous in mainstream rock music since all of us children of the 80's were teenagers. Our fans take us more seriously than we like to take ourselves so we wanted to do an easy, poppy song to show our musical range. All the cool kids like to claim Pinkerton, and I love that record too, but the Blue...

This week's Five and Alive is quite special. 2011 has been a great year for music, and has really reminded me why I fell in love with music and live and breathe through my headphones. Unfortunately, I lost three great bands this year: RX Bandits, Thursday and Thrice. Those bands are greatly part of my musical roots. Head here to see what I learned about music over the last decade of having them be a part of my life.
This week marked the end of the RX Bandits' farewell run. I was more than fortunate enough to see the guys play one last time at the end of June at the very beginning of the tour, and I've been working on the way to express what the band has meant to me since picking up Progress for the first time so many years ago. As some of you may or may not know, my original username for the site was duffmanrxbandit. Head here to read my thoughts on the show, some quotes from Matt Embree about the band's music and influences and even some words from the users of AP.net. Definitely let us and the band know what you thought about the last run (for now).
We've got a quick giveaway for a pair of tickets to the RX Bandits show in NYC tomorrow night (July 13th), at Irving Plaza. To enter, just reply to this post; we will be picking one winner at random at 4 PM EST.
