Varying heavily from the format of recent talks, my newest "Behind the Bits" with stand-up legend Andy Kindler focuses much, much less on his career and places the spotlight on current comedy events and the state of the industry as a whole. While I'm biased, I consider this one a must-listen, even for non-comedy followers. There's not much else I can say without pointing you to the stream, so head over and give it a listen. It's lengthy, but it's the most enlightening conversation I've had with anyone in a very, very long time. Be sure to check back next week, when my guest is stand-up comic and the voice of Bob's Burgers' Gene Belcher, Eugene Mirman.

At the Chicago date of the Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival, Dave Chappelle had quite a bit to say about the crowd he had to deal with a few days prior in Hartford, CT (which can be read about here for those of you unaware). Head to the replies for the audio.

Update: Pedro Segarra, mayor of Hartford, CT, has issued a response to Chappelle's lashings out.

So I know it's Thursday, but a couple things got swapped around last second, and so there was a bit of a delay and change on my latest installment of Behind the Bits; things will be back to normal next Wednesday with my guest Andy Kindler. For now, though, head on over to my blog to listen to my half-hour chat with the always-hilarious podcast master Jimmy Pardo. Slight disclaimer: while the audio is far better than it was on my previous chat with Neil Campbell, there's still some kinks being worked out.

Deepening his after-hours relationship with the network (which begun with his great series Insomniac), Comedy Central has just announced that comedian Dave Attell will be both hosting the network's first late-night uncensored stand-up show as well as premiering a new one-hour special of his own. Both projects will premiere sometime in 2014, and the press release can be found in the replies.

It's Wednesday morning, so I'm very excited to unveil the newest Behind The Bits installment: the second part of my talk with Paul F. Tompkins. We touch on everything here; podcasts, Rescue Dawn, mythical creatures.....death? Who knows! You'll have to read it to find out. As always, head over to my blog to check it out, and I'll see you all here next week with a great talk with one of my favorite people, Comedy Bang! Bang! TV show head writer and improviser extraordinaire Neil Campbell.
Yeah, its more whats a ridiculous thing this person would never do? You know? And that, to me, is the fun. You try avoid just rambling off career highlights and quoting lines from their movies; it...

Available in the replies or on his website, comic Dan Telfer has released his latest half-hour special Live At the Beat Kitchen for free. Also in the replies is Telfer's rationale behind giving the special away as opposed to taking after the $5 approach we've seen often recently.

I am beyond excited to unveil what we've landed today. With over 20 years in the industry, Jim Norton has become one of the biggest names not only in dark comedy, but simply in comedy on the whole. Frequently regarded as the 'third mic' on the Opie & Anthony radio show, Norton feels no topic is taboo, and it doesn't take long for that mindset to shine through on any of his specials. We're lucky enough to have an exclusive stream of Norton's newest album Please Be Offended running all day today. Tackling such subjects as the Westboro Baptist Church and the Ground Zero mosque, this record is definitely controversial and definitely hilarious. Head to the replies to give it a listen, and...

Running the gamut from sketch to improv to stand-up and shining the spotlight on both veteran comics & rising stars (among which are the likes of Chris Gethard, Aparla Nancherla and Dan Soder), the 1st Annual Brooklyn Comedy Festival is quickly approaching. Luckily for you East coasters, however, our friends over at The Laugh Button (it's their day here today, I guess) are giving away three free passes to this great 5-day showcase beginning on August 19th. All you have to do is be over 21, head over to the contest page, fill out a couple quick boxes, and the rest is left to fate. If you're in the area and able, try your hardest to go regardless; the lineup is stellar for a first-year...

One of my favorite comedy sites TheLaughButton.com has put up a cool new video feature called The Laugh Button Inquisition, which revolves around asking several comedians one single question. Nearly two dozen comedians were questioned, including Kyle Kinane, Paul F. Tompkins, Kumail Nanjiani and Pete Holmes. Head to the replies to check out a few of the videos, and hit up TLB's Youtube page for the rest. They will be released weekly throughout the rest of the year.

Today, I'm very excited to be kicking off a feature that is 1.) my first real jaunt into original content as a staff member, and 2.) going to be a big player as far as comedy coverage on the site goes when looking into the future. I got the chance to have the wonderful Paul F. Tompkins be the first interviewee for my column Behind The Bits, which hopes to gather an in-depth look at the world of stand-up comedy. Head over to my blog to get more of a lowdown on this segment & to read the first half of our chat, and be sure keep an eye out here every Wednesday for future installments.

Comedienne and Laughspin guest columnist Cameron Esposito put together a wonderful, thought-provoking piece on being a gay comic, homophobia in comedy, and being heckled by other stand-ups. Check it out here.
For years guys would come up to me other comics, audience members, married heterosexual audience member couples and proposition me after shows. I would be just talking about my life having a girlfriend, going to a movie with that girlfriend, whatever and for some reason, that would get folks going. Theyd want to talk to me about my sex life, or worse, their sex life. And the thing is, Im not into men. Because Im a lesbian. So Im not into men.

During the newest episode of Aisha Tyler's podcast Girl On Guy, Chris Rock spilled the beans about his upcoming 2014 tour. Mum was still fairly the word during the show, but we did get this little gem of a quote involving a potential guest:
The tour will happen. Maybe with Chappelle, maybe not. Who knows? We've been talking.

Paired with Chappelle's return on the Oddball Festival, and Dane Cook's recent tour announcement, it seems like 2013 is the year of the comedy comeback.
