The Shins ended their two year hiatus by announcing an appearance at this year's Outside Lands festival. You can also hear a new song which Mercer has said will appear on their new record by heading to the replies.
Congratulations to The Shins for selling 117,991 copies of their new album Wincing The Night Away and opening at No. 2 (with No. 1 being Pretty Ricky). They are No. 1 on Top Independent Albums, Top Digital Albums, Top Internet Albums and the Top Tastemakers chart, and their first single "Phantom Limb" is top 20 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart. Sub Pop Records had never opened higher than No. 79 before.
KCRW's A Sounds Eclectic Evening 6 will be on April 14th and bands include The Shins, Lily Allen, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Cold War Kids and Bitter:Sweet. It'll be at the Gibson Ampitheatre in Los Angeles and there are plenty of other artists (including a special guest) to be announced later. Tickets go on sale February 27th on Ticketmaster but there will be a pre-sale for exclusively KCRW members on February 15th on KCRW.com. Proceeds from this will go towards KCRW's mission to digitalize the station's entire library of CD and vinyl.
I didn't see this posted, so I figured I would go ahead and clue you in. If you pre-orderWincing the Night Away (releases January 23rd) for 11 bucks, the upcoming album from The Shins, Sub Pop will give you a cool gift card. Also, "Phantom Limb" off of the new album is available for download.
