Now, I could make a few guesses about what goes on in Matty’s head but they’d be stabs in the dark – besides, I’m not sure even Matty knows what’s going on in there - or he does, but it changes from minute to minute - so how could we? Confidence, anguished self-doubt, morbid introspection and ceaseless self-laceration surely play a part; ditto arrogance, urgency, passion, panic; add to that already over-crowded space ambition, exhaustion, elation and dejection. As one of the bands inner circle says, “Matthew has what every great frontman...

When The Gramophone Rings joined The 1975 on their recent North American tour dates and constructed an in-depth feature with the band. Tales of the new album, inspirations, what's next and personal lives are all discussed.
“This is an entire album that speaks of a time when pop music wasn’t afraid to be pop music, it wasn’t over encumbered with self awareness and cynicism, it was free. You had bands like Japan and Scritti Politti and Peter Gabriel pushing the boundaries, and it was an amazingly rewarding time. The feeling of songs by those artists, not necessarily the sonic stylistics, was what we try to capture, which I guess is what makes this album hard to put your finger...

The Guardian speaks with The 1975 about their upcoming album.
That’s the thing with Healy. He says absolutely anything, sometimes contradicting himself from sentence to sentence. He makes up words – he keeps saying “immersiated” when he means immersed – and he’s grandly, fabulously pretentious. He must be a horror to handle – afterwards, his manager wants to know exactly what has been said about his love life, an inquiry he waves away breezily; his publicist wonders if she should stop him talking for so long – but, goodness, he’s smashing company for a writer. He’s a pop star, in all his sincere, ridiculous, insecure glory.

Watch the brand new (and brilliant) video for The 1975's single "Love Me" in the replies.
"With Love Me we wanted to capture the neon-hued enthralling acquisition of success and excess, the screaming momentum, the sexy daze. Everything is REDICULOUS! But, is it? All I know is the only art worth any investment is the art that makes you feel personally addressed. A simple truth, or set of truths, that galvanises an awareness and passion within the individual and in doing so immerses them into a sense of community founded upon that same personal connection or experience. Too many artists care what others think - we are for the 'community' - a non linear observation on everything that has...
