Since The Matches have (kinda) returned and graced us with new music, it only seems right that we get a music video too, right? While the band released a video a few weeks ago, we've got the group's directors cut version of their video for "Life of a Match." They've dropped the lyrics from the video and added a little tweak for good measure. So jump to the replies to check it out and take a stroll down the scene's memory lane.
A fan has started a Kickstarter to make a documentary about The Matches -- they're still about 30K short of their goal though.
Right now we have the production costs budgeted at $35,000. Maybe you are all, “Wow, that is a lot of money. I could buy a practical, compact car with that kind of moola.” You are correct. But a well-done documentary is way more than just a mere motor vehicle, friends. This doc might not aid in your physical travel, but mentally, emotionally, and maybe even spiritually, you’re in for a ride.
Starting on Thursday, June 26th at 1 pm PST ... you'll be able to order The Matches' E. Von Dahl Killed The Locals on vinyl. The pre-order will be taking place on the band's webstore as they have gotten the rights to press this album themselves. It'll come out as a double LP: one black, one red. One album will be the original, pre-label version (which includes "Superman") and the second will be the version made famous by Epitaph. It also includes a 12 page booklet with old photos and memories from each member of the band. There will be 350 that will be signed and $40.00 and the remaining 150 will not be signed and sell for $35.00. All 500 will be numbered. These will go insanely fast....
In addition to their three previously-announced California shows, The Matches will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of E. Von Dahl Killed The Locals with a show at Gramercy Theatre in New York, NY on November 15th. Pre-sale tickets are now available; general on-sale begins this Firday at 10am.
Mr. Jitters (Dylan from The Matches) is releasing his new EP tomorrow and today we're giving away a free download of a new tune called "Be Alright." Mr. Jitters will be hitting the road with Maniac and Foxy Shazam soon, and Shawn Harris did the artwork (which you can see in the replies) for the new EP. Enjoy.
As The Matches play what could be their last shows this weekend, Oh No Not Stereo have prepared a little homage to the group in the form of an acoustic cover of "Yankee In A Chip Shop". Head to the band's AP.net Profile to stream or download it.
Never to let the announcement of an indefinite hiatus stop them, The Matches have announced their fourth album, the Matches album 4, unreleased; graphics? title? or not needed?. It will release this Tuesday, August 11, and be sold online only. Check out the artwork and a message from the band in the replies.

A few days late on this, but Shawn Harris (The Matches) has recently updated his blog, with pictures from the video shoot for the band's second single, "Yankee in a Chip Shop." A Band In Hope is out now, courtesy of Epitaph Records.
Update: Apparently Shawn was kind of kidding when he told a user this. They'll be recording, demoing, but don't plan to have an album out this year. Who woulda known?
Last night in DC, Shawn Harris said that after the AP Tour, The Matches plan to go back into the studio to record a follow-up to A Band In Hope with hopes to have it out by the end of the year. The new songs were described as "weird" as the third album but as catchy as the first.
The Matches wrote in to let us know how the debut live performance of three new songs (sort of) went last night. If you want to be one of the first to hear these songs, go see them on their current tour with Sherwood.
