One of our users went to see United Nations' inaugural performance and reported in about the lack of Daryl Palumbo and Michelle Obama.
Fans Report InLast night in Washington, DC, Eyeball Records supergroup United Nations played their first live performance ever. The band's screamer, Daryl Palumbo was not present at the performance, and singer Geoff Rickly made a crack at one of Daryl's many bands, Head Automatica: "Michelle Obama was going to stop by the show tonight, but she wanted to hear 'Beating Hearts Baby.'"

Seth Werkheiser of Buzzgrinder has responded to Geoff Rickly's blog about music being too safe.
Blog ExcerptSecond, Geoff why wasn't "blogging" about this when his band Thursday appeared on MTV, or when his albums were sold at BestBuy? No doubt his hard work and dedication to his music got him where he is today, but corporate giants helped, too.

The limited edition version of United Nations' self-titled album will ship this week. Eyeball Records had this to say about the situation.
StatementDue to production issues, the Limited Edition of the United Nations record will ship this week. Since the beginning we have experienced delay after delay, issue after issue. We are glad to finally be getting these copies in-hand and we will ship them out as soon as they come to our office. xoxox

Geoff Rickly (Thursday, United Nations) wrote a guest blog for MTV's Headbanger's Blog about the lack of cause in a one-time revolutionary genre.
From the BlogIn the recent past, bands as diverse as Fugazi, Megadeath, Pearl Jam and Ministry all had songs that raised questions about political corruption, social inequity, personal responsibility and artistic freedom. Today, we see artists more concerned with friend requests on MySpace or wanting to “shake it” than with the problems of our lives.

MTV has written an informative article about how United Nations' new album may not be able to be sold in stores due to copyright issues. There is also great discussion on the ideals behind the band and the response from their myspace feature.
From the Article"To me, it was like, maybe speaking sincerely about things isn't enough to make people pay attention. Maybe you have to make fun of people — and be a mirror — to show them how stupid they look, to get their attention. That's the idea. Punk is just way too safe these days, so we're hoping by making some audacious claims and doing some strange things and breaking a few laws, we can get people to think at least. It's the idea that...

Did you say, "I wouldn't call myself a critic, per se, but in my immediate peer group I'm known to be 'in the know.' As a matter of fact, I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone with a record collection that's half as good as mine. And seriously, that dude just can't sing. AUTO-TUNE central... I did intern in a studio, once, not really sure how it's possible for him to be both out of key and Auto-Tuned but whatever, worst singer ever."

Details for the pre-order of Thursday and Envy's split LP together have been announced. Read it below or here.
Pre-Order InformationAfter months of anticipation, we are happy to finally announce the upcoming pre-order for the outrageously good Thursday/Envy split LP+CD. It will be a limited edition LP+CD set, which means the CD comes free inside of the LP format; there will be no separated CD or LP versions. This means it probably won't be available in Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Circuit City, or most "record" stores in the mall. But it will certainly be available at your local independently owned record store, while supplies last. We're not exactly sure how limited it will be yet; maybe 10,000,...
