I'll try this as well, although I tend to be a bit streaky when it comes to movie watching. I've been meaning to catch up on a bunch of TV shows as well (The Wire, Six Feet Under, Mr. Show). Still, I'm hoping to break 100.

What are everyone's qualifications for adding a movie to the list? I'm thinking about doing this.

Will be trying to keep up with this this year as well.
I have no goal or number in mind to aim for, but will just try and be consistent.

What are everyone's qualifications for adding a movie to the list? I'm thinking about doing this.
1. Keep track of every movie you watch (theatres, dvd, television, etc.)
2. You have to have finished it (i.e. if you caught it flipped through channels and only saw 50 minutes of it on HBO, it doesn't count)
At least that's how I do it.

thats how I do it, but I bold any that I saw in theaters and I give a quick rating (out of ten)
so for example:
##. Doubt 10/10
##. Half Nelson 10/10
etc.

Yeah, i think I might try this next year.
I am in awe that you guys are getting in over 300 movies. Thats crazy.
I love movies, and I feel like I see a fair share, but I'll be lucky to get 100. I think that's a pretty good goal.

I'm sure I'll watch at least 2 or 3 other movies today. There's nothing else to do around here.

It's up to you, though I never included them since they aren't movies.
EDIT: Then again, I would consider concert films (i.e. Stop Making Sense) acceptable, so I don't really know, actually.

This. There's a pretty clear distinction between concert films like that or The Last Waltz/Shine a Light and just a live recording with a lot of cameras.

I'm gonna do that one tomorrow, just after I finish my Star Wars marathon. Let's start the year with a nerd run.
Do you have the Extended Editions?
Great idea. I was always the person who talked about how Star Wars was awesome and LOTR sucked, but then I actually sat down and did that, and damn is it an engaging, fun, awesome ten hours.
Haha I don't know how anyone could honestly think that way. I became a fan instantly when I watched the first move in theaters (I went in without having a clue as to what the movie was about). Definitely my favourite movies. I can't even begin to describe how I feel about them.
I do this every year during the holidays with my siblings. But, my brother hasn't been home much lately so it keeps getting delayed. :-( I'll start without him if he keeps this up.
Awww. Just watch them if he doesn't come around.

I too looove the LOTR movies. I started watching the Fellowship extended and thought it was a little odd. It felt a little carelessly thrown together at the beginning. Unfortunately I didn't get to finish it. I'm going to have to watch them all at some point.
Anyway, excited to be joinging the movie list.

yeah, I have the extended editions. I got the big box set with all the ext. editions for my birthday last year. That makes for quite a long marathon definitely, but so worth it.

I liked it a lot actually. I watched it online somewhere (surprisingly good quality). I became very enthralled with the characters. At some point in the movie I empathizes with each character, was kind of annoyed at each character, wanted to talk to each character, etc. I wasn't expecting to have that reaction to some of the characters, but as a recent high school graduate, I can really relate to everything they go through and feel.
I can see where the criticism about it feeling somewhat scripted comes in, but if there was any of that, it's limited (i think) to a few parts.
Definitely worth checking out.

If I could count the number of times I just pop in any random LOTR movie, and watch for just a little bit while I do laundry or something, my list would be ridiculous. That or Veronica Mars episodes.

I looked in the past thread and saw the same movie posted several times on one list. It's just a total count of the movies you watch, beginning to end.

I just wanted to suggest maybe instead of posting up a movie every time you see one, just remember what you see during the day and then make a post before you go to bed. Just suggesting because if this gets over 5,000 posts it's going to get archived, and I don't know, that would kinda suck.

I agree. I think a good system is - edit your post until you have 5 movies per post. That way, it's not too cluttered, but still shows a good number of movies per.

Because that would make too much sense. Also, it makes perfect sense to post nearly identical information in the same formatting in this thread and the 'Last Movie You Saw' thread.

What a fucking trippy movie, would have enjoyed more if I was on something, but even sober it was very entertaining. So much going on throughout the movie and plenty of clever dialogue.

I could have been watching something else.
The horrible acting and awkward silence/lack of dialog (this was prevalent throughout the movie) just isn't my thing I guess.
Not to mention, making any sense out of it is a huge stretch.
My first exposure to David Lynch, and I am not looking for an encore.

Ah I see, I have always found it so strange that there are either die-hard Lynch fans or those who hate his films, not too much in between. Unfortunately I love his films but I do not know more than a handful of people who share this feeling. Blue Velvet is definitely in my top three of all time, and it may even be my all time favorite movie.

I think the issue is that Lynch requires mental effort while watching his work, and too many people have no interest whatsoever in participating for the entire length of his movies. Which is unfortunate, because they're wonderful.

That being the key word. Not saying I find his movies too long AT ALL (I love them), but all but two of his movies are at least 120 minutes long if not longer, and I feel like that turns away a lot of people because they maybe feel like two hours is too long for "weirdness". I don't know, maybe i'm wrong, but I feel like if his films were shorter, he'd have a bigger fanbase (again, absolutely not stating that I want that to happen).

Yeah, I'm sure thats the way it is. I'll give him one more chance, and since you recommend Blue Velvet, that will be the one.

I think you presume too much. I really do love to be challenged when I watch movies. I love to get done with a movie and be left thinking. This movie though, was just ridiculous. And it wasn't just the concept, the flow and acting of 3/4 of the movie was just annoying, for me at least.

I haven't watched it yet either, but that's due to the oddly awful streaming quality Netflix has. Which is weird, because every other movie they have plays fantastic.

Most of his films are about 20 bucks, the list price as not dropped at all, and blockbuster doesn't carry any of his films other than mullholland and inland, maybe if I had netflix I would check out more of his work especially the elephant man and eraserhead but as of right now im calling it quits.

Most public libraries should have it. I would think. It may be David Lynch, but that shit got nominated for 8 Oscars and is probably one of the best films of the 80s.

I have a top 5 that I always keep. It's possible that some movies could nudge one out, but for the sake of how much I love the films, I always leave them in there. I sat down a long time ago and no other movie, besides maybe Green Street, could replace Shawshank. It was a hard decision, but I just haven't come across a movie that I like more.

Absolutely loved The Reader, definitely in my top ten of last year. I have yet to see anything that Ralph Fiennes was in that I have not enjoyed.
And yes it was my first time seeing Angel Heart, im trying to go through and watch some old Mickey Rourke films, somehow I was able to sit through 9 1/2 weeks and after seeing it I was very pessimistic about viewing Angel Heart. For what it was, it wasn't bad, I was kept intrigued the whole time, of course the outcome was a little bizarre/ridiculous but I think it was a decent film.
Im going to find and watch The Pope of Greenwich Village next, have you seen it?

Yeah, I realize I took that to heart a little too much. Sorry. I don't know though, there were some pretty random weird things throughout the movie, even in the beginning (the cowboy, the studio guy in the chair, the guy behind the wall, etc...)
I'll give Elephant Man a try before I give up on Lynch entirely.

I cannot wait to see The Reader, it isn't playing anywhere in my immediate area so I'm still holding off. Angel Heart is very bizarre but I was young when I saw it so I remember loving it. I watched it when I was going through as many Alan Parker films as possible. I have not seen The Pope of Greenwich Village, let me know how it is and I'll add it to my queue.
