View Full Version : AP.net Oscar Pool 2009 - Official Thread
TJ Wells
01/22/09, 06:05 AM
I've already had one person come forward with something for prizes, so if anyone has anything else they'd like to donate for prizes, please tell me by February 7, 2009 so I can organize who gets what for what place. Please keep in mind that if you are offering something for a prize, after the Oscars when you find out who has won what you are offering, it is the responsibility of the winner and yourself to discuss shipping/etc..
Here are the rules:
+ Download the ballot. Put your full name and AP.net name at the top of the ballot.
+ Delete all the choices in each category except for your pick. Also be sure to answer the tiebreaker questions at the end.
+ Email it to oscarpool2009@yahoo.com
+ Ballots are due when the red carpet coverage begins on 2/22/2009 (usually about one hour before the Oscars start). I WILL NOT accept anymore ballots after this time.
+ So far, WordzandDreamz has offered some original posters of the nominated films for prizes.
I have posted MY final picks as a note on my Facebook for anyone who's curious.

i say best actor, actress, original screenplay, foreign, supporting actress all could go to at least 2 different choices.

Before everyone starts asking how I cannot go with Heath Ledger, here's my reasoning; if he does win (which is still almost certain, but not 100%), then I can make up those points in the technical categories. HOWEVER, if Brolin does manage to shock everyone, then I get points in a category where almost certainly no one else will.

Has anyone considered the very real possibility that if the Academy decides to try to make up for snubbing TDK in Director, Score, Screenplay and (though I don't consider it a snub) Picture by giving it all the techs, there is a very real chance that Ben Button could go 0-13?
Fact: The most Oscars ever lost by a film is 11 (I THINK).

Yeah, I don't get how this stuff happens. Completely ruins the fun and the point of the Oscars.
That shit better be fake. I don't want that Wall-E song winning over "O saya" or "Jai ho".
TJ Wells
02/21/09, 01:55 PM
The odds of that being the list are infinitely slim. First off, it just looks totally fake, then there's the fact that they don't usually finish counting until tonight or early tomorrow morning, and only two people (Sid Gainis NOT being one of them) know the results before the envelopes are opened.

Hey TJ for the first tiebreak question I meant to say 12. I wrote the answer for #2 for that one as well. Most likely won't be needed, but just posting it here in case.

Michael Shannon?

I loved Michael Shannon. Definitely one of those scene stealing performances. But seriously, Ledger deserves it. The Dark Knight would be nothing to me if not for his performance, he's the star of the movie.
It'll be awkward if Ledger doesn't win.

Wonder who will accept the award if Ledger wins. I know they are giving it to his daughter when it's all said-and-done.
to zdroikad@msu.edu , you didn't actually send me anything...

I read his father may say a few words if Heath wins.
Ledgers definetely winning IMO. Hes swept literally every supporting actor award thus far, to the point where Downey Jr. and Hoffman didnt even show up to the SAG awards.

Heath is probably the biggest lock to win in Oscar history.

Imagine being the actor that beats Ledger for the award. I'd feel so guilty. Hopefully the Academy doesn't do that to PSH.

I'd say go with the General Forum one. I'm going to delete the one in here.

I was thinking about this earlier. I mean, if RD Jr. wins for Tropic Thunder (he won't, but just saying if he did) that would be so strange. It will be a powerful moment when Heath gets it for sure.
