In the blogging mood, but it's one of those random thoughts kinda moods - so I hope you like bullet points with no real consistent theme. Just how my mind works sometimes.
1) We've teamed up with Rdio to do some fun things, if you're on there - follow us, it makes us look good. If you're not, give it a shot - it's a pretty cool website with a great interface and features. I'm a pretty big fan.
2) We made the mistake of watching "The Other Guys" the other night. What a crap fest of a movie. Will Ferrel is now dead to me.
3) I've heard great things about The Walking Dead, so it looks like it's time to check out that show. We've been re-watching Arrested Development at night recently, one of the best shows ever. Just amazing. Get it if you don't have it.
4) The new Yellowcard album is really good. Definitely stands up with their catalog, although I don't think I like it as much as Paper Walls (which I now think is their best album). The new one is getting a whole shit load of play in my stereo. The fact that I keep listening to it has to be a sign of something.
5) Our Christmas card pictures look absolutely ridiculous this year. My Brandon Flowers like mustache is absolutely disgusting.
6) I'm working on the "posting" features of the new website at the moment. IE: The places where users post from. Screenshot.
As you may or may not know ... I got married. It's been a little over a week now (the 23rd to be exact).
The wedding itself went perfectly. It was everything I could have asked or dreamed for. The perfect venue, great food, really laid back atmosphere with all sorts of friends and family (huge thank you to all the friends and family - couldn't have happened without you). And ... of course ... the girl. I finally found someone who compliments me in every way. I have never been so happy in my entire life.
I'll post some pictures when we get the official ones back. In the meantime, there are some up on facebook that friends have taken.
The honeymoon was in the Bahamas - it was gorgeous. And the first time I was able to sit back and do nothing for a week in as long as I can remember. Huge thank you to the staff that kept AP.net running while I was gone. I read a few books, including The Facebook Effect and Kick Me: Adventures in Adolescence both of which I recommend - so check them out.
I'm still trying to get caught up on emails, as well as my daily tasks around the website, and get everything organized around the house (unpacking, presents, thank you cards, etc.). So I'm sorry for being a tad scatterbrained as of late. Add on top of that - our cat hasn't come home since we got back from the honeymoon. He was staying with family, and it's been 5 days now. We're pretty bummed about that ... so please put good thoughts out into the world for his safe return (and if you know anyone in Vancouver, please pass this along).
It's been a fantastic year for music so far. I can't stop listening to the new albums from The Graduate, Jimmy Eat World, and Anberlin. Trying to figure out how to make a top 10 list this year will be absolutely impossible. I don't know how I'll do it. You better pick up all three of these albums. Go pre-order them now. Seriously ... I'll wait.
The newest version of AP.net is still being worked on. I'm in love with it. Everything about it right now is exactly what I think the future of online music news should be. Customizable, fast, easy to share - clean - minimal - personal. I hope to share more with you in the next few days on what that front.
I've got some 500+ unread emails to go through today. Gonna take a day or two to get caught up on everything before I can really get back into the swing of things around the site. Another longer blog post/update will also be coming shortly.
Currently Loving: Jimmy Eat World, The Graduate, Anberlin
Maybe the busiest I've been all year. Trying to organize a bunch of stuff for the end of the year - work on the site - and stay uptodateonemail. I really needa go through and filter/organize that stuff. Maybe I'll do that tonight.
Long flight to Atlanta tomorrow to visit Kalina's dad. Posting some news around the website today, answering emails, and getting prepared for the trip. Gotta copy some old Friends files to my iPod to watch on the plane. Figure I'll bring Scrubs Season 8 on DVD as well. I always find packing weird ... because I can usually put everything I really need (and more) in a backpack.
Anyway, I'll still be working, that's the beauty of this job - I can do it anywhere. I can hopefully finally get through all of these emails. And, I can bet a whole lot of Thrice and Brand New will be played.
Up a little earlier this morning to get the day started. Quite a few emails that need to be answered (that's a little later in the day), have to ban/delete some spammers in the blog section (again), post some news, and then get back to working on the who quoted me and blog section. Oh, and Kanye West is a douche. That kind of behavior makes me not want to ever listen to his music (which I actually like) again.
Had a great weekend ... pretty sure we found the venue we wanna get married at. Now it's a matter of budget, date, and planning. Cutler had a dismal game and the Broncos actually won on a miracle tip. Whowouldathoughtit!?
Ok, time to get back to work ... lots to do today.
I'm in a pop mood this morning. Not sure why -- just am. When it's done right, I just love the way it can improve your mood on a dime. Anyway, I have some big personal news to announce in the next week or so. I'm sitting on it at the moment.
The dog won't leave my feet alone. I need to update this blog more. I promise I will soon. Once AP.net can launch into the new version, I'll be able to focus more on growth and content. Which is where I think I shine (still +19.02% for the year).
An extremely good friend of mine is having an art show in Portland next weekend (June 20th). Thought I'd pass along the information to anyone in the area that wants to come out. I'll be there eating cupcakes.
Also, she's done album covers for some bands in the past (recently did Olivia Broadfield's cover for the Vagrant Record release) - so hit her up if you're looking for a designer at a damn good price as well.
So, I found out yesterday that my favorite professor from college -- one of probably a handful of people I can truly say ever believed in me (and most certainly one of the reasons I graduated) -- passed away. From what I heard, it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. I've been left speechless.
This is one of those times where I've been extremely thankful for those in my life -- and for the music pumping through my headphones.
I've got a lot to do around the website, there will be more updates soon.
New rule: I am not going to comment in Taking Back Sunday news threads. I will post about them - but I'm not going to say anything else in them. It always ends the same. Every single time. I say something to someone (even in passing to a staff member) - and then have 30 people taking what I said the wrong way (or just disagreeing, nit picking, or being annoying) and I get caught up in the whole mess. Great for pageviews, not so great for my psyche. I simply don't want to do that.
For the record - I don't dislike the band at all. I just don't like their new album. You don't have to believe me, I really don't care.
We'll see how my self control is -- but I am sick of everything surrounding this band and me. Just plain tired of it.
I need something loud to put on ... crank it ... and try and get all the other thoughts out of my head. I am having a pretty rough week, and I just can't seem to tone down that part of my brain that gets annoyed. You know when something is just gnawing at the back of your brain and you end up being short and mean to people for no good reason? But because other things aren't going correctly - it leads to everything feeling out of sorts? That's what my entire week has felt like. And none of the usual methods of kicking that annoying voice out have worked. The homepage being cached like it is is driving me absolutely insane (is the current Green Day skin at least working?) ... and I am barely able to spend any time on improving the website for our new layout launch (looking like a long time away now). Driving me up the wall. The one thing keeping me going at the moment is a certain woman in my life.
PS: I plan on hitting up the Steel Train / Ben Folds show tonight. I'll let you know how that goes.
PPS: Fucking Netflix never sends me new releases when I want them. I want to see Taken, but I don't want to pay for it when I already pay for Netflix. However it's got a "very long wait" - even though I added it mooooonths ago, and it's at the top of my queue. Grumble.
I spent some of last night cleaning out my closet. I had a whole bunch of shirts from college that I never wore anymore, and mostly were there just to sleep/work out in. However, there were more shirts than needed. So it was time to figure out what to store (in case I ever need extra shirts?) and what to donate to Goodwill. Now I've got a big bag to go drop off and a whole lot more closet space. I think the next step should be putting in some drawers or something under the hangers. Probably better than the little shelves I have in there at the moment.
I know, that is completely irrelevant to anything you're interested in. I just felt like sharing.
As for AP.net: The homepage is still cached. Which is annoying me to no end. I understand the need from a traffic angle; however, there has to be a way to still allow for users to log in correctly. I can't get anyone from tech support to respond to me ... so at the moment I'm trying to not pull my hair out, focus on other things, and work on getting the "new" AP.net ready for a launch. If I can ever get tech on the line ... I'm going to propose that instead of caching the entire page - we cache the modules themselves. So that we only load the "new album review" module (for example) 3 times a day. The rest of the time it's static and doesn't hit the database. Same with all the other modules (at different intervals). Of course, I gotta actually be able to talk to someone to be able to work on that. Sooooooooo, I'm going to go post news on the site, listen to Green Day, keep running through the site looking for bugs, test out the site in Safari, and think about this girl I know.
I updated my blackberry to the new OS the other day so I could take advantage of blackberry app world. This meant my blackberry now has video recording capabilities. I decided to try it out last night -- so here is the dog attacking my phone.
Cool to know it works I guess. Maybe I'll use it for the upcoming "Staff Cribs" feature we're putting together.
