Funny, I just finished reading the book again. The 70's version wasn't that great, but had better acting then the remake for T.V. At least the made for T.V. one was more to the book, except the ending was just atrocious. The ending in the book is better than any of the movie ones.

Never knew people didn't think De Palma's was all that great. I love that film and I love the over the top performances from Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie. She really chewed the scenery and spit it back out. And come on, that prom scene... my GOD, that is what I call filmmaking. Seeing this as a wee tot was one of the first times I remember being mesmerized by the direction and editing of a film:

Loved the original but I doubt I will love this version of it, not liked any horror remakes so far and I highly doubt this will buck the trend.

Read the book and thought it was bloody dreadful, like a lot of King's stuff.

The film, on the other hand, is very good. This remake has got a decent cast thus far, but I'll be interested to see how close they stick to either the original film or the book. I have no doubt it'll probably be good, but it would have to be very good to live up to the original.
