I see what you did there...

Production is very radio pop, especially in the chorus. The good news is that their writing is still mighty.

I'm also listening on a tiny tinny speaker, so once I get a headphone listen I might like the production better. I do like the vocal production; the Sainthood vocals were the slightest bit dry, and this captures more melody without sounding computerized.

Artistic integrity is reserved for bands who write the same kind of music for a decade and a half and repel new fans at every turn. That's the only way to make a true artistic statement.

They've been working toward this forever. They're the same concise pop songs as So Jealous, just with different production (seriously do it with a DI acoustic guitar and it could have come right off that album). And they started to embrace little 80's/dance-y touches on Sainthood. It's a perfectly logical progression for them to try.
