BandPage Launches "Experiences"

Posted by: Jason Tate (03/12/13)
BandPage has launched "Experiences," a new service that allows fans to buy music, concert tickets, lessons, face time, and other unique "experiences" from some of their favorite artists.
For $150, users can guarantee five minutes and a photo with George Clinton. A 30-minute guitar lesson with Black Label Society founder Zakk Wylde via Skype costs $2,500. And two tickets for that side stage view of a Stars' show will set you back $100.

Nothing new. Look at what Kevin Devine and Saves the Day did recently.

A great idea though. Changes the whole 'just asking for $$' kickstarter idea into something tangible.

I just really hate the idea of doing something like trying to charge your fans $500 for something like a skype chat. In fact, unless it's for charity, I generally hate artists charging fans for face time, especially after fans have paid for merch, tickets to shows and albums. They're already supporting your artistic endeavors and making it possible for you to do what you do, what the fuck makes you think you're so special enough to ask for them to pay for a handshake and a photo after all of that?

I'm not sure if I'd call Kickstarter anything less than tangible. It's been pretty successful.

this. so much. im already not a fan of kickstarter and the like, especially when it comes to touring. charging people to talk to you on the internet? where does it end?

frank turner put it best - theres no such thing as rock stars, there's just people who play music. and some of them are just like us and some of them are dicks.

$150 for a meet and greet with George Clinton, but $500 to Skype with a guy from Black Veil Brides?!?! Something's just not right there.

As much as I wanted to hate this, some of the options are pretty cool! Such as the disposable camera thing. Cheap, one of a kind, keepsake. However I too have hardly heard of many of these bands

because artists make no money. no money at all. it's a nice way for artists to make additional revenue that they desperately need.

plus, it's a great branding play. it helps artists establish personal connections with their fans that go outside the standard concert experience. it sets itself apart from kickstarter as it doesn't tie these experiences to large scale projects (i.e. albums, dvds, etc)

this is an amazing idea, go bandpage.

There are plenty of other ways for artists to make additional revenue. If an artist wants to "establish a personal connection with fans that go outside concert experience" they can set up meet and greets or go out back after shows and set up web chats for free. Charging anyone excessive amounts of money to meet you or for a bit of your time isn't a "personal experience" at all.
