Staff Recommendations (01/01/06)

Posted by: Frank Giaramita (01/01/06)
The staff recommendations for the week can be found below. (Click "read more" to read all of them).

Frank: Goo Goo Dolls

Jon Foucart: Lola Ray's "Beautiful Boy"

Ryan Imhof: Street To Nowhere's "Georgia, Can You Hear Me"

Garett: I Hate Myself. Happy New Year!

Scott: Queen, Zombie Apocolypse, Damien Rice, Damien Jurado, Shook Ones, Marathon. Welcome to 2k6.

Tony Pascarella: Adrastos. I'd love to see these guys blow up and get signed. Great band.

Jared: I've been listening to a lot of Gym Class Heroes this week.

Brandon Herbel: Hiller. I love this band!

Drew: Fiona Apple. Extraordinary Machine is probably the best album you'll hear in 2005.

Rohan: This week I had Aaron Newberry (who's played in more bands than he recommended) join me for some hot rex.

Greg Dona: Lullabee. This is a very small band based in Dallas that I recently saw at a show. They just finished recording a CD and will be playing at the Gypsy Tea Room on February 26, 2006. Check out "Stars."

Rick: Normal Like You. I was late to this party, but I really like what I've heard from them.

Turn on Everything In Transit again, even if it's cold outside(shut up westcoasters) you'll feel like it's summer again.

Music
I haven't been listening to much music since I'm at home and my speakers are busted, but I recommend listening to Jared and checking Page France's "Hello, Dear Wind". I'm especially excited about them because they're going to be playing at my school in January! :woot: Go here: http://www.purevolume.com/pagefrance

Books
Go read The Amateur Marriage by Anne Tyler. The quote on the cover from a NYTimes writer pretty much sums it up: "An ode to the complexities of familial love." -Michiko Kakutani

Movies
I recommend watching Me and You and Everyone We Know. I bought the DVD on a whim and just watched it the other day. It was enjoying, although parts of it may make you cringe or laugh uncomfortably. I need to watch it again to get a firmer idea of my opinion on the movie, but as it stands it's at least worth a viewing. Has anyone else seen this?

Happy New Year! :)
