Acirema - American Nightmare
Record Label: Indianola Records
Release Date: July 28, 2009
Metalcore, post-hardcore, crunkcore, the infamous "crabcore", and some other genres are made up to categorize the sub-genres of metal (supposedly). There's even deathcore, which is where this deathcore band Acirema (America backwards) stands. Their debut album (I think?), American Nightmare is an average deathcore band vocally, but ironically, the lyrics are an Mmerican nightmare, maybe even worse. Why? They're simply bad, which I will explain later on.
"Retribution Through Blood" sucks. I know, an intro song is one of the most important songs on an album, but the lyrics are completely inexcusable. An example is: "Ripping you apart starting with your fucking throat brutality / The blood coats my body as it starts gushing from your chest / Your screams fill my ears with joy as I start to cut your flesh away / Your fucking entrails spread across the fucking floor / Fucking die." That, my friends is just one of the 8 examples. If these guys wanna be good, at least write some good lyrics. I'm not bashing this band lyrically, but it's simply not good. "To the Death" is actually the best track on the CD, but that's not saying a whole lot. Lyrically and vocally, it's the best, but how can it be great if this album is in the middle of the pack of deathcore bands? TTD is a good song, though.
Lyrically, this band is worse than Suicide Silence and Emmure. Now that's bad. Another pretty example is "I have turned my back on humanity / I've lost all hope so good riddance / Give me one reason to believe / In the fucking faith in human." That's not as bad as the other example mentioned above, but they have major work to do lyrically. Oh, and yes they have breakdowns-- tons and tons of them. They all almost sound the same as well, but there are some standout breakdowns, such as on the song "The Devil's Work." The last song, "Plague of The Earth", is not good, but far from being the second worst song on this album. All I have to say (unrelated to the album itself) is that deathcore in general wasn't the same five years ago as it was today.
Vocally, Acirema doesn't stand out. They're generic and heavy ridden, using almost no clean vocals (except 2 songs) and while they're present, they're either out of place or decent. Acirema isn't close to be the worst deathcore band ever, but they are light years from being the best. They are better than Emmure, a lot better than them overall, but most bands, like With Blood Comes Cleansing and Carnifex are better. If you really really need to listen to this album, or are just a fan of the genre, then go right ahead. If you want better bands of the genre, look down, but Acirema just isn't there this time. Maybe, just maybe, next time.
