| Myspace Steals Band's URL; Gives it to Bad Show | With no advance notice or explanation, Baton Rouge indie rockers Bones have lost their long-established Myspace URL (www.myspace.com/bones) to the FOX Television show of the same name. Bones, the band, has used www.myspace.com/bones for nearly 2 years, racking up close to 20,000 profile views, over 21,000 song plays and over 2100 Myspace friends.
“Losing our URL was a complete surprise to us,” said Michael Miller (upright/electric bass, vox). “We logged on one day and found David Boreantz staring back at us. It sucks because we’ve used that URL for almost 2 years to build our band name and fan base, and it’s on all of our product and posters. We’re as indie as it gets and can’t afford to reprint everything.”
“The crazy thing is, once you pick your Myspace URL you are warned repeatedly by Mypace that you can never change it,” said Scott Campbell (drums/synth bass/graphic designer). “I guess someone bigger came along and wanted the URL we’ve been promoting for 2 years. No one from Myspace will get back to us about how this could have happened, and they’ve now stuck us with www.myspace.com/7483383 which we can not change.”
Bones hits the road tomorrow for the East Coast leg of its Disconnected tour, in support of their self-released CD which is available via Insound.com, BonesTheBand.com and their newly dubbed Myspace page - www.myspace.com/7483383.
College radio programmers have fallen under the spell of the band’s “slithery charm” with KLSU, KPFT, WTUL, WUSM, KALX, KSPC, UCLA, and KAMP jumping on lead track “Sister Mary Freedom.” Key alt weeklies are digging what Offbeat Magazine has described as "delta blues with a punk attitude and a bit of stripper jazz thrown in for fun," with music critics noting:
“The Baton Rouge, Louisiana, duo Bones work a marvelously demented swampcore-blues-torture sound.”
LA Weekly
“Bones works a sticky, oozing trash-garage wallop that, despite the spare two-man blitzkrieg attack force and fealty to their home state's swampy blues grinds, arcs almost into shadowy Black Sabbath-esque territory, a region fraught with menace, corruption, and who-gives-a-damn abandon…”
Inland Empire Weekly
“The White Stripes and the Black Keys might be the most visible incarnations of the two-person band, grinding out sinewy, overdriven blues with minimal instrumentation, but Baton Rouge’s Bones is by far the dirtiest.”
Nashville Scene Critics Pick
Bones was born of a lie in 2002 when Michael Miller wrote "some weird songs" and sang them to his new neighbor, Scott Campbell. “He looked just like this drummer I knew, so I said ‘You still playing drums?’ He said yes but he was lying and did not have any drums. Luckily our neighbor had a set, which Scott still plays today.”
Miller writes low-life hymns for the casual sinner, lyrical and frank, about down and out people, sex, and the devil. "I have a 16-years-old's fascination with words," Miller says of his sometimes shocking lyrics. "I'm interested in saying something and getting your attention and playing with it. It's designed to make you crack a smile."
When not playing in Bones, Miller and Campbell tour in support of the legendary New Orleans Preservation Hall Jazz Band with the alternative cabaret New Orleans Bingo! Show (which was recently featured in a Jane Magazine pictorial). |

01:36 PM on 11/06/06 | God knows that I've tried. You can actually change your myspace URL, I've done it before through a glitch someone found in Myspace's comedian options. I basically involved going to a page for comedians to set their profile name and as long as you were logged in you could set your "comedian url" to whatever was available that you wanted and it would override your previous one.
Myspace is just poorly coded and doesn't allow changing URLs because it took two days for it to change the url displayed on my page and probably causes more backend problems than they will admit to.
On topic, this sucks for the band though because that show really is pretty gay.
Stupid Tom. | | |

it might not seem like a huge thing, but like the guy said: that url is on all of their stuff and they can't get it all reprinted. I don't know, it just goes to show that money can get you what you want, even if it's just a stupid myspace url. | | |
