Don't get the hate for 21st Century Breakdown! Everyone should have known going in that it wasn't gonna top American Idiot or Dookie, but the nonetheless, It's an enjoyable record that I find myself going back to more then most Green Day CD's.
I'm in. Although I didn't like 21st as much as some people did, it wasn't a bad album by any means. I hope they stray away from another big, sprawling rock opera and just give us some punk fucking rock, though.
Not really a fan, but Green Day has that kind of dominance that get's me excited for this anyway. The last album sucked, and 21 Guns could be there worst single ever, but if they can bring in a half of the magic American Idiot had (which isn't really my cup of tea, but I can appreciate it for what it is), then it should be good.
Really interesting to see the dynamics of the Green Day fan base:
"Hope it's better than 21CB"
"Loved 21CB, can't wait!"
"Hated 21CB, this better be better"
"Just listened to AI, hope this is good too!"
"Hope it sounds like Nimrod"
"Hope it sounds like AI"
etc. etc.
Seems pretty 50-50, really, Green Day has done a good job of retaining their older fanbase while moving forward with gaining new fans.
If this was a thread about blink-182, there would be like 500 replies by now. Makes no sense to me, since I've always thought Green Day were the better pop-punk band out of the two.
But yeah, I'm looking forward to this. I've loved pretty much every album they've made, particularly American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown. So if it sounds like those two, I'll be happy. Or if they were to explore a new sound, that'd be cool too.
Green Day was my first favorite band, so I am very happy to hear this news. I loved American Idiot and I was not disappointed with 21stCB, but I'd like to see them move in a bit of a different direction this time.
