Remember when the mainstream got a hold of the terms "emo" and "screamo," and how uninformed journalists started applying the terms to ill-fitting bands until the terms no longer had any relevance and what they originally referred to was all but forgotten? Well, the same has happened to the term "dubstep." "Dubstep" as a descriptor is dead; it's meaningless.
This thread will comprise artists/groups that might've at one time fallen under the umbrella "dubstep," but also sub-genres/descriptors like UK Garage, UK Funky, Future Garage, Juke/Footwork, Purple Sound, and Wonky. If you're at all curious/confused about what these terms refer to, see here, here, and here, and follow the appropriate links. Eligible artists are people like Joy Orbison, FaltyDL, Lone, Scuba, Burial, Ramadanman/Pearson Sound, Disclosure, Sepalcure, Machinedrum, Rustie, Pinch, Shackleton, Actress, George FitzGerald, Julio Bashmore, Addison Groove, Blawan, Untold, Pangaea, Pariah, Martyn, Shlohmo, Instra:mental, Boddika, Flying Lotus, 2562, et. al. Associated labels include Aus, Hemlock, Hotflush, Hessle Audio, Werk, 50Weapons, R&S, Planet Mu, SunkLo, She Works the Long Nights, Hyperdub, Swamp81, Honest Jon's, NonPlus+, Tectonic, and the like.
Thread's for recommending and discussing artists/releases/labels; posting news, songs, and videos; notifying each other when something leaks, etc.
To get started, here's one of 2012's first bangers:
Edit 1-11-13: This thread is now the General Forum destination for all discussion and communal enjoyment of underground dance music, e.g. genres such as techno, house, and bass, as well as the sub-genres they contain.
Posting because it's tied for my favorite tune of last year and the bass is so sinister. Obviously anyone who digs this music will have heard this track, but if there's any people unfamiliar with the genre scouting this thread... play this shit loud.
