I sure as hell hope The Master lands a nod over Argo, Lincoln, Beasts of the Southern Wild, and Life of Pi.

And when I say nomination, I mean one that matters - Best Picture/Best Director.

I think The Master misses BP. Not sure about Amour.

I think Amour gets in like Diving Bell would've gotten in had this nomination system been in place in '07.

I think that's the general reasoning, but I just don't really feel like the expanded field has done what they wanted it to do at all. We've gotten a few animated movies and a few blockbusters in there, but mostly we've just gotten more of the same along the way. That's not to say that we won't be seeing a foreign language film in there, but nominations for them have definitely been few and far between over the history of the award. In other words, I'll believe it when I see it.

I may watch the oscars this year if Greenwood has a shot at taking score. Other than that I have no desire to see an awards show where The Master is likely not getting a nod but Silver Linings is pretty much a lock.

Seriously? Found the score incredibly ineffective compared to what he did with TWBB. I've heard four this year that are more deserving (Beasts, Cloud Atlas, Anna Karenina, Moonrise Kingdom), and I'm behind on movies as it is.

Confused after seeing Life of Pi why it's getting so much awards buzz.. didn't even seem like an academy-type movie, honestly.

Seriously. The fact that it won't just goes to show how useless and irrelevant these awards shows are.

Well I wouldn't call it ineffective, but it isn't as great matched with the film as his was in TWBB. I actually enjoy the score on its own a lot though outside of the movie. I'm just a huge Greenwood fan is all I was really saying with that.

Looking like the big six categories there are all the frontrunners now. I have my doubts that Zero Dark Thirty will play as well with the Academy as it has with the critics groups, however. With that said, I'm not sure what else is in big play right now. Lincoln and Argo maybe, but it seems like both might have peaked two soon. And Les Mis certainly has a shot, but early reviews are a bit more mixed than I expected, and I can't see a sung-through movie musical becoming the consensus pick...especially since it trades great singing for star power.

Is it just me, or is the Best Actress category way more stacked than usual this year? Chastain, Riva, Wallis, Cotillard, Lawrence, Weisz, Winstead, as well as the ones I haven't even seen, like Watts and Mirren. Honestly think it's looking like a better category than Actor this year.

Heard she was great in it.

Also, wow at no Joaquin. The Master backlash in full force, apparently.
