Absolutely can't wait. One of my all-time favorite bands.
Always been a very casual listener of the group but always adored what I heard without ever following it up. Would anybody care to recommend some albums to start with, ultimate Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds material, if you will?
That's a hard question to answer, not just because of how many good albums they have but because of how many different kinds
of albums they have. You can't go wrong with anything they've done really (Nocturama
is generally regarded as the only bad egg in their catalog, and it's still solid), but their albums get progressively more accessible from the debut on, so depending on your taste you might want to start with one of the later albums. I certainly back From Her to Eternity
, because it's brilliant, but I've also found it to be one of their most polarizing records. If you want something that's a bit more immediate while still retaining the basic elements of their early sound, Your Funeral...My Trial
is your best bet. That said, their last two albums (well, three) are probably the best place to start just based on accessibility alone, and quality-wise they rank in the upper tier of their work for me. To reiterate what Craig said, Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus
is sublime, and Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!
is just a couple of steps behind it.
And I'd definitely second checking out Boatman's Call
, but it's in a completely different ballpark than the majority of Nick's work and I think it'd be best to listen to some of his other material first. Personally, my favorite period of his work is the early to mid '90s (Tender Prey
through Let Love In
) - those are all stellar albums with infinite replay value. Good luck, man. There is so much quality stuff for you to discover.
