Who: Four friends from suburban Pennsylvania who write songs that draw influences from scene luminaries such as caP’n Jazz and Braid. They are also most likely to be screaming their lungs out in local basements on any given weekend.
How Is It?: I was unfortunately too young and not serious about music around the time bands like The William Tell Routine, Ethel Meserve, and The Jazz June were still active and being hailed as Pennsylvania’s answer to the Midwest emo scene. By the time I really started getting into music and that general scene, all of these bands were defunct and I felt bummed that I had missed out on a special time in music. However, much recently many bands have been quietly springing up in Pennsylvania with the hopes of keeping that sound and aesthetic alive and kicking. We Sang Songs is one of the newest of these bands, having formed in late 2007 and recently releasing their debut, self-titled EP. The recording may be rough, but the songs are fast, passionate, and fueled by the sweat and emotions of these four super friendly dudes. We Sang Song’s self-titled debut is obviously not without its faults, but the raw emotion and potential displayed on this effort should excite the fans of any of the now defunct acts mentioned in this review.
Good but not as good as Cadwallader or Jacob and I. Lately, Pennsylvania has had a coupe of good bands though.
Agreed. There are a ton of great bands coming out of PA with a similar style lately and thats mostly all the stuff I have been listening to as of late.
