Loved Catholic Girls but I can't get into this one at all. I feel like a ballad-esque song like this should not have shouty vocals. Would really love if AJ just took it easy for a bit and just sang the song. I know, everyones gonna combat me with "but all the emotion he puts into it!!!!" but I'm really not feeling it.

I want something more like "No One's Gonna Need You More" where his voice started out smooth, but was pushed to the point where he shouted during the chorus & the bridge.
This. Emotion does not excuse vocals that don't fit the song.

Song kinda sucks. Real boring and offers nothing worthwhile. Not even very catchy.

Pretty much this

Indeed. Also, as much as I love grit in a voice, AJ's has sounded forced on every song thus far. Loses a bit of the genuine sound they achieved on previous efforts. Catholic Girls is probably my fav TDS summer song though.

I miss Reach for the Sun when he was actually singing, and sounded good

Eh, I still think he sounds alright, just a bit forced. RftS definitely had the best vocals, but the "heavier" songs like Work in Progress and Catholic girls are some of my favs. These guys are all terrible at their instruments though. Real confused about all the talk on twitter and forums regarding their progression as musicians.

I'm fine with the grit in some songs on War Paint and in "Catholic Girls" for the most part, but I would much rather listen to his smoother vocals from RFTS. and you're definitely right; they really are not special at all.

RFTS came out in 2009. It's 2013. Time to move on man.

I liked War Paint too, read what I wrote.

Pre-ordered the album, came 6 days early, listened to it 5 times through, and whoever sequenced this album could have done a wayyy better job. I rearranged my track list and makes it better.. In my own opinion that is

1. Catholic Girls
2. We Will Wait In The Fog
3. Honesty
4. Drowning
5. Sins
6. Into The Comfort
7. Knives
8. Anchor
9. I'm So Pathetic
10. Miles Apart
I'm going to try that, but I think Anchor has to be the closer.
