Billy Talent Playing a String of Small Shows in...

Posted by: Deborah Remus (08/08/13)
Billy Talent will play a series of shows in tiny venues this September and dates are in the replies. Tickets will go on sale this Saturday for only $10 and all the money goes to the survivors of the recent train explosion in Lac-Mégantic, Quebec.

That's really neat of them, especially since they're not from Quebec.

Not to nitpick on them doing a good thing, but wouldn't they make more money for charity by playing at larger venues and selling tickets for more money?

I think the main point of this particular tour is to see one of the biggest bands in Canada play a cheap, intimate show, which is something that band hasn't really done in 10 years. I still feel really bummed I was 5 years too young when Billy Talent, Alexisonfire, Spitalfield and Death From Above (before the 1979) played a smaller bar in Winnipeg. All the times I've seen BT in an arena since then will never compare to that night back in September 2003.

So yeah. I think the fact that they're giving the money to charity is more of an afterthought than anything else.

I seriously wish I could trade you Billy Talent for an Alkaline Trio/The Lawrence Arms/Off With Their Heads cross Canada tour.

They did, but they only played a small portion of the tour.

That's a solid idea, but I feel like they could charge at least twice as much and sell just as many for this cause.
