Google Play Music Lets You Browser Upload Your Music

Posted by - 06:16 PM on 03/26/14
Google Play Music now allows you to upload your music through their web interface.
Google Play Music has long been a solid option for uploading and accessing your music collection wherever you are, but using the Music Manager app to actually get your songs into the cloud wasn't always the smoothest or most intuitive process. However, a new feature tucked away in the experimental "labs" section of Play Music should make this process a lot easier users can now upload whatever music they want straight through the browser using simple drag-and-drop. If the songs are matched with Google's vast music library, they'll be added automatically; otherwise they're simply uploaded.

This also comes, more importantly, with a "standalone" (chrome extension) player too. You still have to have Crhome to use it but it's a cool little player and it doesn't take up a browser tab anymore so that's nice.

Thank the good lord. Their auto uploader that installs onto your computer works most of the time, but sometimes it stops working and refuses to upload my new albums.

I want to be able to edit/delete stuff from my iPhone and iPad, and an actual iPad app would be nice too.

I never had trouble with the uploader. Whenever I add something to iTunes it pops up in my google play. Seemed to work fine except for some duplications

Yeah I believe the cap for the free service is 20k songs. Not sure if there is a way to increase that limit.

Can someone outline the use-case for Google Play in general? Seems interesting.

I made the switch from Spotify a few months ago. The ability to upload my own music and the lack of chromecast support from Spotify were my primary reasons. So far, zero complaints. I'm actually starting to prefer the interface as well.

However, that half off subscription for students with Spotify might lure me back when I go back to school in the fall. Money talks.
