I'm about halfway through right now and I definitely dig the overall mood of the album so far. I'm not sure if it'll have the lasting power that their earlier albums did with me, but I can definitely see this being a great soundtrack to a walk home on a summer night.
I guess I'm the odd one out in this thread. I just had my first listen, but I don't think I'll revisit these songs beyond "Magic", "Midnight", and maybe "Sky Full of Stars".
Never really was a huge fan of Coldplay prior to Viva, thought their albums were too mellow/vanilla-sounding for me. Mylo was a bit of a letdown compared to the previous record, but I feel the more-upbeat, stadium-ready songs they've made more recently have suited them best. This kind of sounds like a marriage between their slower songs and the heavier use of synths on Mylo, which I imagined I would've actually liked based on "Magic/Midnight". The whole thing just sounds like bits of Peter Gabriel, Justin Vernon, and Brian Eno filtered through adult alternative/pop radio to me...not quite daring enough to be "experimental", yet not accessible enough to be considered an entertaining pop record. I dunno; I'm actually really surprised at how let down I am by this.
